Anyone knows how to keep 4 beefalos domesticated in a megaworld?

Since they changed domestication wont change when beef die, kill them and resurrect them when needed then?

wait what

does that persist server restarts?

Beefalo bell bond, and have a second dummy/mule account log off with them

I do that sometimes when my girlfriend joins the server, but she is rarely visiting my megaworld,

she spends time in the tropics mostly (shipwrecked island adventures)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't it be possible to bundle their bells to despawn them until unbundled?

I'm pretty sure the bells are unbundleable unlike lavae teeth.

Isn’t it because they need to be ridden at least once every 40 days or so?
That happened to me once when I went into a building spree and completely neglected my Beef. The only foolproof really is riding them once every 1 or 2 seasons.

Klei patched this a while ago.

I recall that it was that domestication loss gets increasingly aggressive the longer they have gone without gaining it, so riding or feeding them Steamed Twigs can help counteract major losses from not being considered near a lick (even when you have left them beside one).

Playing with an info mod can help work out the frequency you need to attend to them.

They dont lose domestication while sleeping, so you can feed them moonshrooms to make them sleep, then quickly ditch them somewhere you wont load so they wont wake up.

This won't persist on load. There's an oversight that's been a thing since Don't Starve that causes the sleeper component to schedule a sleep/wake test task on creation of the component, even if the entity is unloaded (as well as lacking an unloaded check when setting the test functions to something else).

Clearly not intended since otherwise getting unloaded wouldn't cancel these tasks to save performance and not check for lights (if applicable) because that won't work, but it's been a part of both games for a long time now so I'm not sure if it'll get addressed.

This theory makes more sense, as in my 3000 days megaworld I was never feeding them but had good salt box uptime

If this is the case, this is quite an unknown mechanic

Anyone scoured the code for this ramping domestication loss?

Saltbox uptime what?

Saltlicks pause domestication decay. I highly doubt there is a ramping up mechanic. I never had an issue leaving my beefalo alone without riding for long periods of time. But I think you underestimated their consumption:

2 Saltlicks is very little for 4 beefalo.
I use two saltlicks for one beefalo for ~30 days.

From the wiki:

Quote

The Gourmet Salt Lick works similarly to the Salt Lick, but has twice the durability and can be refilled with Salt Crystals, each restoring 80 durability.

At full durability, a Gourmet Salt Lick can keep a Beefalo from losing domestication for approximately 30 days, at 16 uses per day with 480 durability

That affirmes my own observation. Note that the salt lick has to be refilled 6 times to restore its entire durability.

So to tend to your 4 beefalo you have to completly refill 4 Gourmet Salt Licks for every 30 days you want to leave them alone. You can also build twice that amount of normal Salt Licks or any combination thereof.

Also make sure there is no other livestock interfering with your Salt Licks (for example goats or koalaelefants).

Personally, I think it should just get rid of the Beefalo domestication decay.
As a server admin in Japan, I don't want to hear anymore that my mates lament "クソッ!ビーファローが野生に戻った!(**** Beefalo was back in the wild!)" as punishment for just leaving a Beefalo Bell on the ground for only 1 day (in real time).
