Icker Preserve Kit issues

Recommended Posts

Icker Preserve  Kit:

Cost - 5 dreadstone, 3 icker blobs

Portability? - No

Slots - 1

Accessibility - Post-rift

Bundling Wrap:

Cost - 1 wax paper, 1 rope

Portability? - Yes

Slots - 4

Accessibility - always, when you want to

Yeah, it is SLIGHTLY more convenient because you do not need to rebundle stuff afterwards, but really, who doesn't bundle up ropes with their bundled items to rebundle it instantly afterwards anyways? The downside is almost nonexistent.

It makes no sense for the Icker Preserve to be so weak and so expensive at the same time.

Shouldn't the gel the food is stored inside dissolve it, and then using shadow magic reconstruct it when you want to pull it out? The mechanic would make the slots for the stored item infinite. Although the food would be covered in the icker goo I guess? Making the food give 5-10 sanity less.

Using Elastispacer on the item to make it infinite does not make sense, since Shadow Magic and Lunar Magic do not play along.

We have 3 items that preserve food (Gift Wrap, Bundling Wrap and Polar Bearger Bin), but there is no item that restores spoilage of food. So I would like this feature more than increasing the storage capacity for Icker Preserve Kit. That would make it truly unique.

Yeah, that sounds good too!

Salt works for ingredients but needs a buff

Probably just a "me problem" but one thing I find super annoying with the Icker Preserves is that they have collisions.

In general containers don’t block movement, while this one in peculiar does not technically count as one, it still share the purpose of a storage unit and could be convenient to have anywhere but I find it too bulky to integrate in pre-built bases or farms.

And seeing the stuff it’s made of, not being able to pass trough it would have been the last attribute I would have thought of giving it.

I cook a lot of dragonpies in a single go, and due to their lengthly cooking time I have to constantly be changing the locations of said pies. If I bundle wrap them, opening them drops them on the floor, even if it's a very short window of time it's still technically expiring even if only a few seconds and that kind of annoys me. Putting it in a fridge or even the bearger bin expires them as well(although bearger bin really became the MVP on that.)

I like that I have a non-wrappable solution to this annoyance with the icker preserve kit. I also don't have to go looking around and keep track of the spare dragonpies I have wrapped away after I use my current ones.

That being said, one thing I thought would be an interesting way to use the icker preserve kits is to change how they work; make them a "refillable salt lick" for food, where when placed inside of one the food slowly restores spoilage but at the same time consumes some of the icker gel over time. Once the icker gel is consumed, the item is still preserved indefinitely but you would either need to refuel it with more icker preserve to restore spoilage again or let it slowly regenerate itself over time when empty.

Yesssss, you would go to the caves and collect icker for your Icker Preserves. I like that. Especially with how abundant ickers are.

Sometimes I wonder if Klei is setting the stage for a bundling wrap nerf.

I can’t imagine them doing that without major adjustments to icker preserves to hold more items, especially since bundles still hold items preserves cannot in addition to the fact that preserves are highly space inefficient for bulk storage.

I hope not. This would be the single worst thing I could imagine. I think this would have such far reaching effects on every current play style and strategy that it would universally piss off every single player

I personally think we should be able to get the Icker Jar at an earlier time, given that Icker's drops are Nightmare Fuel and not Pure Horror.

Here's an idea: When Acid Rain occurs, the food in the Icker Preserve should slowly recover from spoilage.

That overlaps with salt... i prefer an unique perk like preserving mobs

bundling wrap

Edit: also, salt can be used only on raw ingredients, not cooked food or crockpot dishes, this would be a unique interaction. No one uses salt for this anyway, its refreshing effect is too weak for how hard it is to get. It's one of those resources it's a shame to use, and not needed to gather

Salt Crystals are not going to save our Glow Berry.
And we already have at least two wraps and one Pack to save mobs. And for the vast majority of player-picked mobs, a single seed (or something similar) will restore their freshness. So it's not unique.

Spoiler

PS: Formalin: I think of myself as preserving specimens rather than living creatures.

Glowberries have the same effect at 100%freshness than at 1%.. same goes for warly's glowberry dish

Sure, we can store creatures in bundles but you need to recatch them. Is so annoying needing to make multiple bundles of few unites of spores or gleams...

I want my Glowcap to be full of full freshness items.
And for mobs, 100% and 1% are the same effect, too.
If you're having trouble recapturing, you can do it on a biscuit, I mean a boat.
Or just put the mobs and their food in the Insulated Pack.

Freeing spores and gleams in a boat sounds like an horrible idea...

Enlightement shards work for glowcaps...
