Petition for Offline/Online World Toggle

Recommended Posts

There actually is is offline skin support which was added to the game as @Mike23Ua has stated.

the issue we have is that world save files created as an Online world cannot be played Offline. Also you cannot change an Offline world into an Online one. That is the problem.

I also think @JesseB_Klei would be able to look at this and provide a solution.

I've been requesting for this for years. Especially with things like Nintendo Switch and Steam Deck it makes no sense to not allow swapping the world between offline and online...

You can't even forcefully change the worlds between online and offline by editing the server's save file I tried and it would reset each time I went in the game so my offline worlds I literally can never play them with my friends it's so stupid and my online worlds I can't play them when I have no internet access I hate it

Wasn’t this done intentionally to prevent players from item/skin dupe’ing offline before switching back to online?

ugh, offline worlds are the worst. to punish you for not being online you aren't allowed to use your skins. it is the ONLY reason my long-term world is not set to offline. i am fine with not being able to get new skins while playing solo but not letting you use your current ones is rubbish

(they also do it when you set your world to 1 player only even though you are still online)

It doesn't need to be this way.

Pretty sure that is a technical limitation. You need internet access to confirm you own the stuff.

I mean there have been mods in the past that allowed players to use skins that they did not own and I believe nothing can be done to stop people from doing this besides removing from workshop. Art assets for skins are in game files? This wouldn't have been possible otherwise.

So at the end of the day players are getting punished because of the select few that can probably still get away with doing stuff like this.

The reason online worlds can't be played offline is because of skins.

I don't think that trying to fight these few players is worth the inconvenience caused to everyone that buys skins. Its similar to situations where developers try to fight piracy by using DRM that makes it so that games are laggy/require better PC on official copy but once it is pirated it ruins better for players that don't pay.

Maybe? But even then they can just disable skins from being unraveled or raveled while offline like before when they made so players can't use skins at all in offline worlds (which they changed for a while now that you can use skins and DLC characters in offline world which makes not being able to play online world while offline or switch an offline world to online even more stupid)

Spools and skins are definitely not locally saved on player's PC all that data is on Klei's server so even if somehow a player unlocks a skin or gets more spools in some magical way while offline then goes online all of that effort will be for nothing and disappear unless you literally want to just play offline forever and at that point the person would probably just pirate a cracked version of the game which has all the skins unlocked and drm removed.

This thing literally just is a horrible anti-consumer annoyance for paying players especially ones with Steam Deck or Nintendo Switch since it blocks you from playing the game if you don't have internet! DST isn't supposed to be like Genshin Impact which requires 24/7 internet to play the game since it's basically Don't Starve 2 which DS was a wonderful game that required no wifi and even was DRM-free installer (the good old days...) so it would be good if players could always be able to play in their world regardless of if they are online or offline

You cannot edit the spools. Ive seen a video of someone attempting to do this however there is a server side check which reverted the amount of spools.

im sure if someone edits skins they do not own or had someone place down for them, there is a server side check to check the legitimacy of it too.

there is no excuse for a lack of offline/online toggle.

And if there is a legitimate excuse, i would like to hear it from the devs themselves.

Please give us a response.

The funny is that you can unintentionally join a online world while offline! If you enter a world and your internet dies while loading you join the world with your skins set to default and if you were playing a DLC character you'll be sent back to the character select screen

Is the PC version of this game different from Xbox or Something? You can play offline worlds. Also even if you started a world and allowed 6 players to join, you can now go to that lovely little menu prior to launching your world, edit some settings and set it to a maximum of 1 players and relaunch the world again?

I am deeply confused now. :/

Same here. Actually, though, on Switch, if you’re allergic to subscriptions like I am, you have to play all your games offline, as any internet features are locked behind their (admittedly quite cheap) online service.

Please Klei, PLEASE add Dont starve Alone mod as an option to game, It allows low end pc have full solo world experience without lag plus it removes delay even on very good pcs.

dsa does have a handful of bugs that would make it pretty unreasonable to add as a base game feature. As nice as it would be, it doesnt make sense for them to implement something that can cause fairly major bugs into the game.

I have DSA on since day 1 on my main megabase world, which is almost 2000 days old. Ive never encountered any sorts of bugs.

well thats great for you, however i constantly hear about people coming up with certain issues with the mod. When developing the game klei is going to hear about all the random obscure issues people are having, and on a larger scale it will make the game look a lot worse as a whole.

i think its great that the mod exists so the experience is there, but it wouldnt be fair to just make it part of the base game considering how many people run into issues with it.

Doesn't the cave day/season desync with the surface?

No. Even the Daywalker seems to respawn just fine, both in caves and on surface.

So what kind of problems they run into? D-sync? I honestly never experienced any sort of bugs

The worst thing is that this affects console players more than pc players;

i have seen a youtube tutorial on how to change your world from online to offline and vice versa by editing the save file.

Furthermore, console players cannot edit their save files. They cant even attempt to hack their save file and use unearned skins. Its simply not an option. They cant even use mods for crying out loud lol.

You also need to think about the implications of this further down the line when Klei decides the game is finished and they want to close servers. All your precious online worlds will be worthless. And maybe your skins too.

i will actively keep this topic alive or continue to create new topics until a dev addresses this matter.

Please show your support and lets try to get this issue addressed.

The silence on this issue is almost reminiscent of Valve.

Its pretty sad.

all i want is a response from the devs;

if its not possible, say so.

If its being looked into, say so.

if the answer is no, say so.

i need to know where klei stands so i know how to interact with klei as a company moving forward. Be it purchasing skins or other games.
