Chesed
The team have heard your complaints about Wilson's skilltree, and we have taken the community's feedback to heart. For the first of our planned character revitalisations: we have removed Wilson's skilltree. Mike23Ua
You joke now, but there’s a very real chance Klei will do a “Downsides” update, which gives characters heavy impactful downsides and makes playing each one a unique challenge and struggle. And before you say nahhhh they’ll never make the game harder- Bro… they added healing spiders to spider queens who never needed healing spiders. I love how people say “game is getting too easy” without also acknowledging the areas where game was made harder. And personally? I think that “Relaxed Mode” should have the current more powerful skill trees while “Survival” or some future harder mode, has a skill tree where you’ll have to pick bad perks. Example: there’s this game I play where you can upgrade healing to deal 70% more healing to you, but the downside to that is you heal slower over time & if you take damage it stops the heal from finishing. Believe it or not- Most games with skill trees also force the player to endure downsides. ShadowDuelist
I like the skill trees and making the characters more and more different from each other, it adds a lot of gameplay time to try new things. Different from each other i can agree with but try new things.. May i ask how so ? we have little to none space to actually create fun builds or have some variety like torchlight or diablo, Woodie almost even can't move points on his tree because it was made to make him fight powercreep instead of Willow/Winona who got almost a rework and have some other options even if they aren't the best/optional. Even Willow falls into a similar category as Woodie as she also has skills she must get and skills heavily linked to others so she doesn't have as much build variety either unless your willing to skip out on alignment skills or burn your loot. DegenerateFurry
I really hate the sentiment that it's a bad thing that Klei keeps diversifying our options when we play the game. It's just braindead non-feedback that stems from "but it's not the changes I PERSONALLY want!" and neglects to consider how much it's adding when a character gets a skill tree (or back when they were still doing reworks, when a character got one of those). MadMatt
I still feel they need to move away from having updates entirely focused on characters and normalize minor changes and patches to help polish character gameplay. I'm still optimistic about skill trees but as they are designing them right now, it does just feel like reworks 2.0 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/159620-cant-wait-for-klei-to-announce-character-re-re-reworks-after-skilltrees-are-done-by-year-2028/#findComment-1747190 Share on other sites

HellHeater
This is year 2032. Klei has decided to updating the game once every year to have more comprehensive and larger updates. Every update features a mob vote for the next year and a character reimagination. This year, Wilson got reimagined. He became the master of alchemy. He can transmute anything and everything into gold and elixir of life (heals for 15 and regenerates 10 more hp overtime, instant use time and works on Wormwood). He is the most efficient at using science points and therefore unlocking tools. He powercreeped into Wigfrid with his bat bat skill, powercreeped into William with his immortal followers skill, powercreeped into Willow with his fire nation heritage skill, powercreeped into both Wolfgang and Wanda with his Fury of The Fallen skill. He also has a thick 12 slot beard skill that can hold spiders, rabbits, frogworms, moonbears, foxes. The thing is they didn't make them to diversify our options they did it to address complaints people had about the power gap created by the character refreshes. This lead to it's own problems too as skill trees now sell you a fix to that complaint in the skill tree rather than the base kit harming the diversity they're trying to offer and making the quality of the skill trees wildly inconsistent. I would have personally love if they instead did a re-refresh before they tackled skill trees so that people could have true freedom in their builds without feeling like they have to intentionally miss out on core mechanics. Honestly this is why I feel like Wurt's skill tree is so good she already felt like a complete character without specific flaws after her multiple mini refreshes over the years this leads to her skill tree feeling very free specifically because nothing is required so it's entirely up to you how to build her Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/159620-cant-wait-for-klei-to-announce-character-re-re-reworks-after-skilltrees-are-done-by-year-2028/#findComment-1747205 Share on other sites

Not bad, but just kind of boring. Most of it is just numbers increases, and none of it actually changes the way you play the game in any kind of meaningful way. And then we have the real stinkers: Slippery Hide, which actually could be good (at 2 points 50 extra health for 100 wetness? hell yeah) but there's not any great ways to just get a lot of wetness. You can jump off a boat a couple times in prep for a boss but then how do you get more wetness mid-fight? A water balloon gives you 20 which is effectively 10 health, so you're really just better off chugging potatoes or something. Hydrous Healing is an absolute joke. 1 hp/8s at 100 wetness (at rank 2). Even if you doubled that it'd be underpowered. Sensible Swamp Fighter is entirely pointless. Merms are expendable, you don't care if they die. Especially if you're running Shadow affinity, where you want them to die. It's like no one at Klei actually considered how the character they designed plays. Swamp Pathfinder is equally pointless. Cobblestone is not very hard to make. Investing a point in this for sort of cheaper cobblestone roads is not worth it. Sated sovereign seems okay but is just not worth the point investment. Making the king's hunger meter bigger doesn't really do much, and you only get a 15% hunger reduction at 3 points. This means a good like 1/3 of her skills are just DoA and you never bother actually using them. And the remaining skills feel mandatory but also don't really change how you play Wurt at all. More like “I want Klei to make more content that can be enjoyed as all playable characters and not just one specific character” Pretty sure that’s the main reason most people hate the skill trees. Myself included.. However- Wigfrids skill tree gave her stuff her rework should have had & it remains to be seen if Wendy’s skill tree will do anything more than just stat buffs from Abigail. So of course my criticisms probably stem from the fact content updates feel small & bite-sized because I feel like Klei is trying to juggle between that and reworks/skill trees. One only needs to look at how drastically Wormwood changed as a character and how much Ahem “fan service” they tried to cram into his tweaks & skill trees to come to the conclusion Klei spends entirely too long on reworks/skill trees. BUT and I’m being serious about this, next years roadmap will be THE Official 10 Year Anniversary of Dont Starve Together. And due to the huge update they did to the entire DS+ its DLCs for its 10 year anniversary, I’m expecting some pretty exciting stuff for DST. But with only 8 characters who have skill trees, and 10 that have NOT been given skill trees (11 if we count Wonkey) and only getting 4 content updates in a Years time with some of those updates not even getting skill trees in them. It will no joke be at least another year or two years before they finish skill trees. So I don’t have high hopes for a Huge 10yr Anniversary update for DST.
