Big Worm loot suggestion

Recommended Posts

Agree. One drawback of not fighting a multiple worm wave is not having multiple berries as loot. They can add the giant berry so we get ~5 glowberries and maybe some lesser glow berries

Making them able to be waxed would bring an interesting decoration (that could shine like pure brillance in total darkness)

I don't see nightberries fitting

Honestly, I could see it fitting if nightberries are meant to be an "ancient" version of glow berries along with how some character examination quotes mention how the Great Depths Worm is supposed to be "extinct"

I like the idea.

Oh damn, I forgot about the examination quotes. They really said this? Fascinating. Then it also make sense that it could drop nightberries. Buuuttt I'm more on the ship suggestion of the big glow berry crop becauseeeee = it could give new seeds to put in the farming crops, so then you can farm now glowberry (obviously it needs to be difficult and slow to make it balanced) giving more progression in the game and most importantly caves progression. Giving also a 3% more incentive to stay in the caves.

I thought about this and it DID appeal to me, but I'm still more on team "nightberry" honestly, just so we'd have another source of the things. It's not worth fighting tooth & nail over your opinion unlike someone else who lurks around these forums...

It'd be neat if BOTH the huge glow berry crop and the night berry ended up being possible to grow from the head of the worm, though!

I can see them dropping Glowberry seeds, which would work as normal farm crop seeds but for Glowberries. I can see them being unique that they only grow while it being dark and in contrast to normal crops, getting higher levels of quality would only yield more glowberries instead of seeds, meaning that you'd only really be able to maintain the crop amount instead of getting more. I could see a new Glowberry normal crockpot dish being able to be created allowing you to gain night vision for 8 minutes when you use 4 full glowberries in a crockpot with nightberries being able to substitute for 2 of them.

Guys… it’s a gigantic worm that roams the entire cave system eating whatever it comes across, and maybe it digests it, maybe sometimes it does not digest it.. but the point is simple-

This thing should be an effective Loot Piñata…

For obvious reasons.

Personally I’d even put things like cutstone & still alive rabbits and Moleworms in its loot table.. but that’s just me.

a single giant glowberry as a TRAP is excellent. having glowberries(plural) and lesser glowberries(plural) as a reward is excellent. i would be all in on there being a set-piece to force this miniboss. it would be exciting and cool and would almost certainly be something for people to seek out the way they seek out triple tusk camps

Perhaps the seeds must be planted in Replica Relic Vase.

Okay I think we might reached the peak for its loot. To recap, as of now, he drops:

  • 6 Monster Meats
  • A lot of bone shards
  • 1 Glowberry
  • A nice quantity of rocks
  • Red gems, Blue gems and Purple gems (I think 1-2 corresponding)
  • Some random chance of units Thulecite 2-3
  • 3 Manure each time he eats a large animal (if I'm correct) so if you want to farm it naturally without doing the beefalo bell or going to the Ruins, now we have the option. Albeit this strategy is very weak and a bit dumb for the danger he poses, considering there is the far better method which is splumonkeys. But if you want have fun, sure why not.

(Correct me in case I'm wrong on his original loot since he's new)  Now we want transform it into ---->

  • 6 Monster Meats
  • A lot less bone shards. I'll be real, not only we don't need that much of bone shards for their general applications (and just imagine if you're in a full world of 6 friends or online people, how much already bone shards you acquire), we also don't need the world to get dirty with a lot of bone shards. The numbers of bone shards must be reduced. OR as @NPCMaxwell remind it to me, put new bone crafts to throw all these bone shards. Especially new bone crafts decorations!
  • 1 Giant Glowberry. A new giant crop, that if you smash it, will give you some glowberries (should we add the chance to become lesser glowberries? because the lesser glowberries are plants, while the glowberries are animal-made, it doesn't make very sense to be lesser glowberries) and new seeds that you can plant on the farming system. Based on @Frashaw27 once they fully grow, they do become exactly glowberries (or maybe lesser glowberries to balance them out?) and never go away from the farms (unless you remove them with fire or shovel) meaning you will always re-obtain the fruit but they only give you glowberries, no seeds. To even balance them out more, not only to grow them is maybe slow? and very difficult so that you need to be skillfull with the farming minigame (nutrients, water, family, happiness, ecc...),  we can also make them withered and die, if you don't tend them constantly their needs with darkness, water and many other essentials. In this way exploring for lesser glowberries and killing depth worms for glowberries will not be powercreep by this. I let Klei decide what options of balance they want to go for a possible farmable glowberry.
  • Based on @benfroyobro9381. The large quantity of rocks he drops now can be sometimes replaced rng with all the minerals in the Caves (and Ruins). What it means is when you kill big giant worm boi, it's a slot machine of resources. Let's say you have killed him 7 times. The first time is only 20 rocks. The second time 4 rocks, 1 green gem and 4 nitre. The third time 2 red gems, 2 blue gems, 2 marble, 4 gold nuggets. The fourth time 2 thulecite units, 6 thulecite fragments, 1 yellow gem, 1 orange gem and so on. It make very sense the more you think about this, because it's a damn giant worm digging while eating everything in the dirt. A lot of minerals will be stucked in his stomach or absorbed by him. IF you'll agree, we can propose to Klei that Ruins minerals (green gems, orange gems, yellow gems, thulecite units and thulecite fragments) can be dropped by the worm boi IF only killed in the Ruins!!! Which makes it even more intrinsic in the gameplay and add more flavour that makes you smile.
  • A random low chance added to drop even 1 to 2: slurtle slimes, broken shells, guano, lightbulbs, twigs, grass, logs, bunny puff, silk, nightmare fuel, moleworms (I laughed thinking about this), green mushrooms, blue mushrooms, red mushrooms, sluper pelts, tentacle spots and fossils!! (thanks @cybers2001). Again this is tied with the previous point, where depth worms are literally the "sharks" of the caves ecosystem. They will literally eat anything and it's a nice touch to add these. I didn't want to add all caves animal drops because we need to incentivize players to interact with the world, so if you want to use a slurtle helmet, you need to obtained it via killing slurtles and not giant depth worms.
  • The usual 3 Manure

This is literally the peak. I said already previously that his loot was already great and we didn't need to change it. Although my intentions were right, I feel now wrong and now I'm more convinced than ever, that this, is the best route. A big loot containing the riches that drove us to exploring the caves + a new item with new interaction that gives more progression in the farming system, caves and game in general. Great discussion everybody!

P.S @benfroyobro9381 I didn't put thulecites craft and dreadstone in the loot because it doesn't feel balanced, not only because we're already giving him too much of a good loot by being only a good normal boss, but as said here:

Quote

we need to incentivize players to interact with the world

it feels very cheap, broken and unbalanced to him drops a thulecite crown, armor or club for example. Also why ancient guardian horn? Lol

I get that the worm dropping gems fits thematically but i dont get why we got another source of gems, this one for late game, when they never added more recipes using them

They could be used in the new shadow and moon items instead of just using 2 resources on most of the recipes

yea there are like nothing you can use gems for, red i think is mostly wanted for the life amulet, and other wise you can make fire staff with it i guess, or use with a blue gem to get purple gem for earlyer shadow manipulator, and then blue gem you just goin to use that for ice staffs, and no one even makes the teleporter focus and purple staff anymore, then there green yellow and orange wich are only used for there staff and amulets, and orange amulet is kind of a waste, and green you just use to duplicate thulecite in the ruins, yellow staff is fine and needed to get the moon light staff wich ends up for progressing the game..

but yea...there sure needs more gem useage for how many sources actualy do give gems

Funny enough i almost run out of purple gems because i use the focus a lot to decorate with stuff like clay vargs and hounds and with moonrock pigs and hounds.

Also i teleport a lot because i based in the oasis which is 3 biomes away from the center so i build a focus near the portal to save a lot of time traveling or to leave the base quickly when giants approach in winter and autumn

The ones i use the least are red, in solo worlds, and yellow because 1 star caller stuff, plus the moon caller staff, last really long and in late i dont use that many since the cc crown was added

I like the idea of having him make fossils renewable. I think that alone can give him unique value. But yeah, always down for shiny new things too.

Ah damn it! I forgot completely about fossils, I'll add it because they make even more sense, since he eats through dirt and rocks.

While I'm completely with you on the unbalanceness of the game, there are still few uses in general with gems that you sink (already a person post it here an example) and I mean....you really really really give up about the chance on having green gems? Then I don't get you at all with "late game" ehhhh?

Late game? We're talking about depth worm waves. You'll meet him early/mid game progression. And we still don't have the numbers if he will be alone, how much waves are needed before he spawns, ecc...

You my man, are a rare specie. Using telelocator focus this way, wow. It brings me back.....

Cleaning 2 times the ruins, which can easily made before these guys appear, you will have enough red, yellow, purple and orange for ingame years

I dont think they will add this worm in the early game, even less considering how certain parts of the community are allergic to needing to make an effort to "win" in a game

How is suppose to be used? I use it to move mobs and myself. Is pretty useful and cheap
