Oh boy, here it comes! Another criticism: Nightmare grub that spawns in the ruins during rifts

So basically this guy, but made completely out of shadows. The one that spawns during nightmare cycles while rifts are open.

What I'm currently getting is that the only purpose it serves is to drastically deter you from being in the ruins during a nightmare cycle.

It does 50 damage to an unarmored wigfrid and upon killing it, there's a high chance you only receive 1 nightmare fuel for your trouble. It seems like the enemy has around 500 hp, but I'm not a coder, so I'm just testing this manually.

So if the ruins is in a nightmare phase when rifts are open, basically, gfto. Nice one, Klei.

You gain nothing for killing it and it's not uncommon for 2 to spawn. The sensible action is to run, apparently. Fantastic.

yeah, thanks for contributing to this thread. Very cool. FYI, I haven't died to the nightmare grub yet. Would be nice to escalate against what you said without getting banned, but I suppose you have a ticket to mistreat people on their thread. Congratulations on that one. You must feel like a real winner.

I thought the nightmare phase was always the "GTFO" part the caves

Depends on the character choice. With combat specialists, nightmare phases turn into nightmare fuel farms. But take all that trouble ask risk of an army of nightmare beaks and crawling nightmares and divide the yield by 10. Why even bother with rifts phases?

Sure, with weaker combat characters and in this niche, Wortox, you kind of have little business interacting nightmare phases to begin with, but with the addition of the grubmare, unless you want to risk being in the ruins with them, then you're just waiting on time to run out. It's infinitely stupid to me.

I haven't experienced this mob yet, but 2 mobs with 500 hp each don't sound like a big deal. Everything else in the ruins has way more HP anyway, and there's _way more_ than 2 mobs.

So it deals the same amount of damage as a terrorbeak and only has 100 more hp I don't see why it's so bad.

thanks. That's why it felt so tanky.

terror beaks do not deal 75 damage per hit. that is a complete and utter lie.

they hit disproportionally hard and they're pretty damn accurate with their strike. They're not good to deal with considering how worthless they are to get rid of.

But if it were a choice between stone bridges and revising this terrible and ill conceived mob, I'll take the stone bridge. Or even just scraping the entire caves altogether because the entire server is just made to make surface life easier.

no, it deals 75

I mean  that's still not bad.

My bad I thought I could take you at your word.

It's purpose is to serve as a challenge. If you're having trouble, there's this really neat gear you can craft with things from the rifts that might help even up the playing field.

Also worth mentioning that it's unfinished. I imagine it'll be dropping pure horror once it's art is updated.

what are you even talking about, dude?

I took this as reference

Challenge for no reason means that you're better off not interacting with it. Why risk a potential death for nothing? This is still a survival game and survival often means risk management. Reward skews risk management in favor of taking risks. If an enemy is more dangerous for absolutely no reward, then on average, you're less inclined to making stupid decisions "just because"
It's not sensible to do stupid things for no reason. On the other hand, it's worth it to do stupid things for good yields.

50 HP on unarmored Wigfrid. That means 75 damage on a standard non armored character.  Why didn't you factor in all the variables?

Because I figured you did I don't remember all the variables at all times there's a lot of characters so once again I refer you back to

Anymore questions?

Man honestly I just got to ask.. what game are you even playing?

When I do a simple task like killing easy to kill Batalisks, sometimes they do not drop any loot at all, when I only went to “deal with” them to try and get batwings to craft bat bats with.

RockJaw sharks? Not worth fighting for their loot..

I even feel like the new Giant Worms “loot” will be something that’ll make fighting it not even worth it.

But I guess not everything needs to give good “loot” some things are okay to give very bad not worth it loot.. as long as the thing your fighting can sometimes actually be a threat that needs to be killed or flee’d away from to insure your own survival.

Also one more thing, this new mob looks like it would’ve been better as a ocean creature than a ruins one.. but that’s my personal opinion.

I thought they added a new ocean nightmare creature for a moment too.

Its confusing to add that in.

What is this? you talking about the Land Shark that is a nightmare creature? the one with the retaliation attacks?

Yes. But if you take a close look at it, it is a grub.
