The Great Depths Worm is too powerful to not be a boss

Loot is actually not that bad. Maybe it could drop more thulecite though. You get +40 bone shards, buncha rockz, some purp, red and blue gems, a piece of thulecite, monster meat etc

what does one need 40 bone sharts for? only thing i can think of that needs bones is bucketopoop and warlys bone soup, and red, blue and in the end purple come from hounts naturaaly, monster meat is like...alot of things, rocks i mean, earthquake drops rocks, thulecite is i guess the only real thing but it drops like what 2?

Just because the loot can be attained through other means doesn't make it useless.

Another source of getting bone shards...

It goes over percentage here buddy. No matter the HP. Max survived with 1 HP left last time I tried the fight (I had night armor on)

It leaves you at 1 health because it can't kill you by swallowing you. It's coded to leave you at 1 health if you were to die mid-digestion (although as Milordo stated earlier, it can spit you out onto one of its body segments and kill you that way).

It damages armor pretty severely (a marble suit goes from 100% to 28%, and a log suit doesn't even make it out of its body), so I don't think it's percentage based?

That being said...

I think the gap to land damage is tricky but it has some folks like Willow or Wolfie, Wigfrid that can really burst it even more damage that I did here

You did a much better job fighting this boss than I did, so I guess it's not that bad to land hits on.

Yeah, it is very tricky since it's a "new" type of enemy in the game and his movement is strange, but thanks very much for the video! Lightbulbs, of course! Why didn't I think about those before, it was very obvious. Btw it is possible to do it without the food strategy? I noticed that sometimes he will stop to do the usual enemy scream after some time and also sometimes he will be ""stunned"" (not a real stun) like the normal depth worms, where you can land 3 hits, maybe 4. Just curious if you can abuse it to land more cheap shots.

That's the thing. People are clamoring for encounters with this mob that's going to go from novelty to nuisance after the first few waves it shows up in. If it can spawn every 7 days per player in the caves, it's just not going to have any special loot, like the Varglet.

Then it would need to have higher hp since at that point it'd be a boss fight.

But it already has the exact right amount of hp for a boss fight. Why you want to give him more?

This creature is certainly a boss (c_spawn("worm_boss")). But its loot is horrible so far.

I mean...it is? A nice quantity of monster meat, blue gems, red gems, purple gems AND THULECITE? (for some strange reason, don't know why he drops thulecite...).

It's not an horrible loot at all. Maybe a generic one? Yes, we agree on that, but not terrible come on.

Edit: Forgot about the rocks, whis is a big plus too, not only for the quantity, but as another cool way to gain rocks, which are very useful in the entire game.

Vargs summon hounds, this guy comes alone lol

And it summons them very nasty spammy. I hate fighting him.

I don't think exploiting the ai should be legitimately weighed against proper interactions realistically you would be fighting the varg and it's followers at the same time which is just as hard or harder for some as some people struggle with hordes not to mention later on varg has a lunar variant who adds breath attacks alongside it's hordes.

The minions, and Varg by extend, are FARRR worse than the giant depth worm boi ironically, since this game doesn't have poise. So if you fight him without a strategy but head to head combat, just one mistake and you're dead. Also remember he do kinda spam hounds too much frequently.

I thought it dropped thulicite in the showcase but i realised it was the shadow kit.

Its loot needs changed since it is arguably worse loot than 2 depth worms.

No no, he drops thulecite (for some reason?!?). The drops are not bad and not even worse that 2 depth worms.

Lord of the fruit flies (i think) is also considered a boss, so i think The Worm is one aswell.

This is true! Again...for some strange reason since it's literally a non-boss for how weak and pathetic his fight is xD

I think it should drop more monster meat (at least 8 but preferably 12).

Agreed ^^^^

I discovered with someone on DSTcord that you can actually feed it 25 lit gunpowder and he will explode and die. It's pretty cool.

Can you show this somehow? I've tried this a few times myself during testing and it just eats and digests lit gunpowder completely unscathed.

Very odd! I haven't done it myself, so I'm not sure what the technique is or anything. I'll ask the guy who found it

Hey so I haven't been able to replicate it myself, but you can pretty easily just hit one of his sides with the explosion since he's so massive and it takes a long time for the segments to follow.

Guys, I had thoughts about the possibilities with the worm. A terrible thought was born. A nightmare.

I'm scared now.....very very scared xD

Its only 1 thulicite, and it is somewhat rare.

He gave me to 2-3 thulecite and not thulecite fragments, thulecites units!!!! I really don't get why the community is bashing down his drops. In reality I know why. Because they're not unique new drops to craft new things, but we don't need it. We don't need to always bloat even more the giant unbalanced mess of the game. Also just because there are far better methods for blue gems, red gems, monster meat, manure (although I'm skeptical about this one), rocks and thulecite, it doesn't diminish the giant value the worm is bringing. In normal runs or blind runs (because those exist) having more choices and alternatives are always better than having only one or two. I'm down to fight him from time to time, especially when time will pass and we will be accustomed to him and better to fight him (I'm already considering him easy-medium difficulty). Lastly, he drops thulecite units, for maxwell sake. That should be enough to give a motive to kill him.

If it’s programmed to leave you at one hp what happens if it shallows Wanda? Would she insta die or be left at 79?

I disagree.

Again a horde is often far more dangerous than a single entity and in the case of the Worm avoid his attacks is very simple due to how telegraphed they are the only thing making him a big threat is his damage output which I feel needs to be tweaked.

To be clear I don't think this new mob is good enough to be considered boss class as the only thing seemly giving him that status is how you go about attacking him and having high damage.

I tested it and damn, it's shi1. They didn't thought about her mechanic (understandably) so you insta die. You don't receive the unique attack with Wanda and die during digestion.

2 hours ago, Mysterious box said:

You misdjudge me. It was a honest question. Why do you want to give him more hp? And what would you change and why? You want him to become a raid boss/ super boss instead? The normal sandbox bosses have each correspectively: Treeguard = 2500, Spider Queen = 2500, Deerclops = 4000, Moose/Goose = 6000, Antlion = 6000, Bearger = 6000, Varg = 1800, Fruit flies = 1500 (lmao why he isn't still reworked), Eye of terror = 5000, Malbatross = 5000.

That's why I don't find his hp being a problem and also a lot of these normal bosses do have such simple attacks and patterns, that wormy boi feels more special and unique. He has all the rights to have the boss status, which it's incredible Klei still didn't gave it to him, although we still don't have an ost for caves bosses because Klei let caves into a beta stage for so long that it hurts very much.

I played with Wilson and Wanda. With Wilson I always came out alive from the monster's digestion. With Wanda it was a lottery. Sometimes I came out alive, other times I died in the stomach.

But the worst part of the boss is when he traps you and keeps throwing you from one side to the other. Then it's game over even for Wilson.

Did you tested with armor? I did without it and she dies immedietaly always in the stomach.

I equipped Thulecite Crown with Wanda/Wilson. And Wanda was old (37.5 health points)

Okay that's why it was a lottery but it still means Wanda is super weak against him compared to all other characters (not that I complain....). Damn, thulecite crown and sometimes you died with it? Damn.

Yeah, I already hated depths worm waves (half as populous as a hound wave with 6x the health) and this just makes me hate them even more.

Why? Deerclops has less HP and Bearger/Moosegoose only have 1k more, all with more useful drops. Plus you're forgetting that it already has more effective health by virtue of how small the windows to hit it without taking thorns damage are.

Maybe there will be a real BOSS with similar mechanics in the future? The greatest Worm? The Destroyer?

In fact,
I hope it has more new drops.
In the meantime,
I don't want it to have its current drops removed.
Oh, except for the monster meat.
