Cave/shadow update, will this be Maxwells moment?!

That could be intersting though...though I don't intent to ever really consider playing with any skilltree stuff aside Wilson's it WOULD be interesting to see in which direction they are going with Maxwell.

Your all wrong, they’re bringing back the screecher exclusively for caves, and it will be an unstoppable, Unkillable monster that can only be flee’d away from and is definitely not something you want to fight.. think of something along the lines of Resident Evils Nemesis it chases you through the entire game and you can’t just easily get rid of it.

The screecher isn’t a boss, at least not one you can fight… and it’s health is INFINITE, but it will chase you if your low on sanity, all throughout the entire underground cave system.

Wow there is someone who remembers the screecher here xD I think I played this thing ONCE and then returned to the original DS. I am not sure if I am meant to take this seriously, but IF you mean it seriously, maybe MAYBE they could add a shadow creature that COSMETICALLY resembles the screecher as a nod to this old part of the DS game?

Do you know if it's compatible with Uncompromissing Mode ?

The comments under the mod sadly makes it sound like it is not compatible with uncompromissing mod. (Which sadly is also uncompatible with many other of my favourite mods which is why I don't use uncompromissing or else I could tell you first hand.)

Please don't be new biomes, please don't be new biomes, please don't be new biomes.

New biomes are awesome, don't get me wrong, but that's not what caves need. They need their absurd amount of EMPTY repeat biomes and endless horrible generation to be given love first.
It's so much easier to just add new flashy stuff than to go back and give older things love and I fear DST struggles with that a lot as is. I'd 100% want some of the actual problems with existing caves to be touched up before they go and add new stuff.

Of course I'm obviously expecting new stuff but I hope it's not all congealed into a self sustained bubble and we actually get some much needed changes to the rest of the caves.

This, very much this!

Give me a reason to visit each biome in the caves just like how each of the surface's biomes has either a setpiece or important resources (2nd decicious/rocky/killer bee biome/2nd meteorite)

Otherwise it's gonna be the same that we already have:

Go to caves and locate mud > blue mush > ruins > toadstool + the new biome they would add

The rest of the biomes are filler which have nothing special that you can't get on the surface or mobs that are a waste of time with useless drops

Ig maybe a few (relocatable) bunny hutches...

Lore wise the atrium and archives are similar. They are both linked.

Oh yeah, they absolutely are lorewise.

But i'm talking about gameplay mechanics. I just really hope we get a shadow infused area with a completely unique from the ruins.

Shadow infused area as shadowy as it can get I hope. The most shadowy place in the whole underground. :wilson_celebrate:

I'm just glad its specifically mentioning focusing on New content.

QOL & Skill trees are nice, but we haven't gotten an update fully focused on new content since Host of Horrors.

The last new biome we got was Moon Quay, back in mid 2022, so while I get wanting to focus on improving the existing biomes, I just want a new location to explore so badly.

Updating old areas with new content would be the same as adding a new location. And I don’t really know how to express that any better but okay let’s pretend for example Klei was to add Hamlets Snakes and Scorpions into DST, sure sure… they totally COULD add a brand new Hamlet inspired Jungle like biome..  but do you know where Else Snakes and Scorpions would be commonly found? Deserts! And since the one in DST is often HUGE and heavily lacking in content.. this would be an optimal place to put them.

And I think that’s what people are wanting with caves (Aka updated visuals, new mobs & resources added to the existing areas already in the game.)

I get what you're saying, but I personally disagree.

That's mostly personal preference though so I don't think it's particularly worth arguing over.

Honestly if the new location would turn out to become something like the junkyard I would prefer old biomes to get expanded instead. Just saying. (I don't mind the junkyard, I just think it's very tiny and doesn't do much out of later game. So I hope we get a mix of new biomes if they are tiny like the junkyard and old biomes being expanded.)

The Junkyard's a setpiece, not a biome iirc.

Slightly off topic, but I think Wendy should get Charlie immunity like Winona in her skill tree.

Lorewise, we've just seen that Charlie does seem to care about Wendy & Abigail to an extent, so it's possible she might choose to leave Wendy alone.

In regards to gameplay, Wendy already has a way to reliable way to avoid Charlie with Abigail's ambiant light, so it would be nice QOL to not have to spend the entire night smashing your face into Abigail.

I doubt Wendy gets her skill tree this update, but I think its worth considering for the future.

I think Charlie Immunity is an incredibly boring effect that takes "skill tree real-estate". It may be a lore-accurate skill for some characters to have, but it's such an inconsequential skill that barely has any gameplay usage and I hope she doesn't get immunity to Charlie simply because I feel that would take away from other skills she could have that are actually interesting.

I mean sure, but that's why in Winonas tree its in the same skill that gives:

  • Fragile Rose - revives at night light/postern
  • Chance to get pure horror instead of nightmare fuel
  • Interconnected Wormhole travel

It should be the same for Wendy. Throw it in as a bonus to a more interesting skill, like the ability to fill the Sisturn with some kind of shadow flower for a buffed Abigail.

Also wendy already has protecting against charlie because of abigail's glow.

I... already mentioned that...

It shouldn't be it's own dedicated skill. It's NOT it's own dedicated skill for Winona.

I want it as a secondary effect to another skill as a QOL/Flavour thing.

I know they’re probably going through out of parallels, but not mirring each other(with eather way the should fix some stuff to better which ever they choose that’s besides the point)

So if they’re going with the path of mirroring each other I think it be cool to have a red shadow equivalent to gestalts In the future when there’s a lunar update, we can get a blue lunar cool to shadow creatures

And I know gestalts and shadow creatures Are supposed to be the lunar and shadow equivalents/parallels but I think adding these in Would each much more comparable counterparts

Like shadow Magic is black and lunar magic is blue and excess energy for shadow is red and excess energy for lunar white

Plus, Gestalts can’t be damaged and shadow monsters can

See how they don’t match up

Maybe in some part of the caves I was obviously not around fuelWeaver since boardwalk as a bug that they intentionally left in the game when it was discovered to our players have that strategy

But I think it would be cool if some, if not most places like filled with shadow magic, or some sort of water equivalent maybe even half separate things to the boat and other nautical tool equivalents  also I think it would be cool and maybe in the ruins as a giant version of the eye that appeared in tears below trailer

Awesome, maybe unique flora and  flora and fauna

maybe even something after fixing the ancient gateway To improve the quality of the fix

more stuff to provide Laura about the ancients only way to activate the portal and archives

Maybe a Lunar grotto starts infecting things near it growing bigger and bigger

Maybe  shadow  equivalents To the revived bosses

You know I just thought that if they do a host of horrors equivalent to the caves, the Spider Queen is most likely going to be one of the candidates. Even if she can appear on the surface, caves just seem more "spidery".

Klei said that the cave rift content would be focus on survival and weather but would be weird if they dont add mobs, flora or bosses since we wont experience survival mechanics in the caves if they lack content to stay downstairs

There are already boulders and acid rain in the caves, perhaps they meant the acid rain buff that we received in the last update
