More seasonal creatures and better functional life?

Recommended Posts

Might not benefit to us anything, but I just think that there could be more improvements to nature and life around us in DST for things to feel slightly busier than usual, cause most of the world is kinda dead and the ocean feels more livelier than before. Seasonal things, creatures, plants to appear and do things kinda like how mushtrees in caves release spores season wise but surface would be brimming with activity, others just life should be more active around players both to enhance the immersion and embrace with challenge if ill prepared.

Honestly the only things that are seasonal kinda that are moose goose, penguls, and just seasonal bosses. Maybe some biomes should have some sort of creatures reemerge like some sort of scorpions in deserts, or plants like wild pumpkin patches being an actual thing instead of just a weird halloween thing where they just... sit, picked and stationary they could exist till they wilt away next season or as garden patches to exist.

Scarecrows imo should actually be functional and keep birds off crops, or at least summon crop friendly canaries that will just make a garden patch pretty than anything, or no birds can be near farms while those are there and birds would try to eat at the seeds of your crops because it kinda makes sense and shouldn't be left planted and unprotected. Frankly, any animals should be able to attack a crop patch if unattended, being that fences would keep them uninterested.

Butterflies should probably more common during spring, spawnrates increasing or have a different way of living by appearing as catterpillars instead and could be gotten by gathering flowers in spring, then growing a bunch of your own butterflies in summer to kill them off or keep idk. Maybe flowers should have different visuals as they close up during winter, giving nothing but grass. I feel like flowers being an all time thing is a bit weird and would be neat to have a grass source in a cost of a sanity one.

General Constant's nature rework would be a really cool update to have. Having more things going on with what we currently have would add that needed immersion to survival while giving new tools and sources of food or resource in advance while losing out on certain things on certain seasons.

I think there could be more pest animals that thrive in abandoned farm dumps. They eat grass from time to time, and can serve as prey for catcoons, hounds and tallbirds.

Pigs could harvest crops to keep their health up.

Slurtles could occasionally pop up from mole mounds.

Walrus could hunt birds with their darts.

Pigs and dogs could steal tallbird eggs

Petrified forests could attract rock lobsters (or a similar equivalent) to recycle them up.

It'd be nice if birds had nests in trees, and even treeguards.

Hounds could follow suspicious dirt trails and spawn hunts themselves, it possible (extra flavour if they find another varg pack leader).

Bee stingers could attract and be food for skittersquid.

It'd be nice to see an insect predator like a mini dragonfly (perhaps with summer affinities).

Pigs could rummage through the catcoon den.

Merms and pigs could occasionally cut trees down.

No eyed deer eating berries would spawn more gobblers for predators.

Something to keep frog numbers at bay I would welcome. Perhaps an aerial predator too big for standard traps, or a surface version of the depth worm.

More scavengers for later worlds would be nice.

Animals killed in the desert could drop bone shards, which buzzards could eat.

In general, seeing animals group up to go on raids or scouting would be neat (bats going to hunt mosquitos, dogs hunting volt goats as a pack, pigs raiding spiders together, ect). Or just animals trekking outside of their normal biomes on occasion or season would be nice.

Other groups and animals that I think would fit well into Don't Stave would include: more crabs, molluscs, pitcher plants, bears, ostriches, orcas, worms, foxes, kangaroos, shrimp, hippos, diseased/parasitic trees, beetles, snakes and ants.

The more Don't Starve can make me feel like I'm a small part of a food web, instead of every animal exclusively being our prey, the better, in my opinion!

Totally agree

I love what they did with moosegoose being a migratory territorial bird that takes several areas of the game. Waaay better than the old design even if some people still think it was better and very uMcoMProMiSInG to make 1 single boss spawn near the player which could choose a safe place...

I think more animals taking territory in different seasons and some plants (or even the vines from hamlet) appearing during spring or summer will make the years way more interesting. Hamlet did a great job at making the few and short seasons interesting enough with the metamorphosis of ladybugs and the vines taking every biome

A few ideas:

1.) Frogs can croak, in spring frogs appear more often in lakes and they jump and croak more actively

2.)In summer, spiders do not come out during the day because of the heat, even if you walk on the web, because they are hot

3.) Some puffins dig nests on the ground (near water), in which eggs can be found.

4.) Pigs will eat berries from bushes that are near their house,

5.) in spring, small tentacles appear in the swamp, and if they do not die before summer, they will become large

6.) in winter, their "cones" may fall from prickly trees, from which new prickly trees can be grown

7.) in spring, instead of fish have a 40% chance of catching frog eggs. Salted caviar can be made from it (salted in a jar) so that it does not spoil.

8.)After heavy rains, various debris, including algae stalks, may be thrown out on the coast of the continent.

9.) when cutting down trees, an egg may fall out or a bird may fall out, you can also return the chirping of birds from ds.

10.)I suggest adding rattlesnakes to the desert, they will hunt birds (or any small animals) and hide in thorny bushes. After death, they will leave skin, and rarely maracas. When you make noise with maracas, it will make all those who know how to hide come out of their shell

I just want ALL of this! I want to harvest my stuff in a world full of flora AND fauna. (Shipwrecked and Hamlet are good examples of how I want a world to look like at the bare minimum without having to put everything living on plenty, those feel alive to me.)

So the tentacles means we will get the cave baby tentacles but for the surface? :3 I hope we'll get the same quotes than for the "babies" that the giant tentacle spawns in caves, those are too cute.

Baby creatures forever! \o/ *I'd be pleased if this was seen as a motivation to Klei to maybe give more creatures reproduction-mechanics*

i want this soooo bad, it would be amazing to have tentacles not be a finite resource in the swamps even if it is only one or two new ones a year

tentacles are a mob that can never go extinct no matter what.

You can always renewably get tentacle spots from tentapillars which Wickerbottoms can use to craft on tentacles books to get renewable tentacles

I know but that isnt "no matter what"

I guess if you are playing without caves, it is technically possible to run out of tentacles, but you would basically have to deliberately set out to make it happen.

It is 'no matter what'
Limitations based on what you do as a player is irrelevant. It is available in game, thus it is renewable. You cannot say the same for native spiky desert trees and bushes. Those two are not renewable.

i play wes solo. explain to me how i can have infinite tentacles without caves and without changing to another character.

Your limitations are not my responsibility. That's on you.

and you straight up lying for engagement again is on you. "no matter what" does not mean "in certain edge cases that require xx set-up that only 1 out of 15 characters can do". please don't quote-spam the forums with nonsense posts. you are not a child, it is not cute.
