Two questions about Frosty Planet

Recommended Posts

1. What is Icy Nectar Meteor Shower and can this be fed directly to Spigot Seals or only used for plastics?

2. Realistically it seems we can only gather about 300kg/s of Snow in Spaced Out DLC for BonBon Trees, is there another way of producing Snow? Or are we just going to wild plant BonBon Trees?

Appreciate the help!

Where do you take that number from? The Ice Maker makes snow as well now.

Icy Nectar Meteor Shower is what meteor showers occur on the Cyrus planetoid; it's snow, crushed ice, and bonbon seeds. There is no nectar in it by itself.

@BezKa Worth noting that the bonbon trees plant themselves and dig out any new snow that falls and entombs them, so over time the entire surface would be full of trees and nectar.

Interesting. Do they require some specific (natural)  tiles to plant themselves, or will any do?

I am taking my time and have not looked at the surface yet (spaced-out classic start)

Ok, I had a look in debug because Bonbon Trees do not seem to self-plant, after all. What seems to be happening is that a nectar-meteor creates 3 tiles of snow and a random one has a ready-made Bonbon Tree in it at minimal growth, no seed stage, but no branches yet either. Hence the pre-existing tile does not matter.

What I am unclear on is how this mechanism can create the relatively high crushed ice + snow towers that I see at cycle 800. Maybe the "towers" built themselves up from ice meteors (the source of the crushed ice) and the two snow-tiles per bonbon-meteor that do not have a tree in it. In addition, initially, the trees clear just one tile with their trunk. When grown, they clear with their branches as well.

If I have that right, "towers" could be removed manually and new meteors waited for until a relatively evenly planted surface is reached. Trees could be ripped out to allow branch creation. After that, each tile that has a tree trunk or tree branch in it should then be long-term stable. If time or patience runs out, classical clearing of the tiles with no trees or tree-branches by robo-miners is also an option as is accepting the "towers". Obviously, you can also Pip-plant the whole thing.

As a side-note, the meteors do entomb solar panels, but do not damage them and even soft pipes (sedimentary) do not get damaged by ice and nectar meteors.

Update: Waiting for the meteors to fall just right and and mining the tiles when they do not is insanely tedious. There are too many plain ice and snow meteors for that to work. I will just do pip-planting instead.

Update2: I actually tried to meteor-plant about halt of the surface. Still not completed. I expect it would take about 1000 cycles and regular removal of snow to get the tree cover complete and in a 2-level line. 1-level (all on the same base height) will probably even longer. Really not worth it.

Use ceiling trims to automatically create a "horizon" so snow doesn't pile too high
