Character specific teleports are increasing and I find that bad

Recommended Posts

Am I the only one that finds it strange how klei is just slowly adding exclusive teleports to even more characters? I just don't understand it, it's such a waste of development time given how if you are just slowly adding a very specific teleport to more chars that only they can use and maybe allow others to use it only if they are around, why not make the ALREADY existing teleport better instead?

In our world we spent HOURS trying to get a telelocator network working, but once it was up it was WONDERFUL, we can freely (as freely as destroying your sanity and using purple gems can be) go around the map so long it's in our 5 points of interest, for example we can have one person teleport to lunar island and then bring everyone using the lazy deserter (apparently people don't use this? it's awesome), however we cannot even attempt to do this in caves and have to endure walking all the way to wherever we have to go.

I FEEL like allowing people to teleport isn't an issue because of what I am discussing already, so why not make the telelocator better? It would save a lot of time and also make going around the massive world more convenient.

I'm actually also confused why "everyone" seems to get a teleportation method now. For me if I could choose who should be able to teleport by other means then the telelocator and lazy explorer I would have actually ONLY chosen:

Wortox, because he's an IMP who "consumed" a krampus soul,

Wanda because she's a timetraveler, and I am a Dr. Who fan so I favour time and space travel combined. [lol sorry I have weird "explanations" for my preferences]

Maxwell, because he could teleport as an NPC. [and it fits the magician theme]

EDIT: And Wickerbottom because she is literally an ACTUAL book-magician not just an illusionist like Maxwell [without Codex Umbra].

For the others I would have actually expected them to work with the in-game items. THOUGH I would have given Wilson and Winona less sanity loss, or more durability or easier crafting receipts due to their scientist / handyperson theme.

Apart from that I don't use the common items enough to tell how good they are practically but it feels like they are kind of put to waste when being replaced by character specific methods bit by bit.

He couldn't that wasn't actually him just a manifestation.

It's mostly a case of what was mentioned previously there's not enough unique ideas that can be sourced to make up skills for a skill tree so you end up with both a ton of perk overlap and skills that are more random like Willow being a fire bender.

It kind of gets worse with the addition of skills since now you have skill points making giving these things away as items potentially coming under more scrutiny than they would have before you had to spend your limited skill points on them.

I mean, you can still have character specific teleports while also improving existing teleporting options. I still really wish you could choose which focus to warp to if you self warp yourself (if Winona can do that with Wormholes, then you better be able to do it with the staff) alongside making it work in the caves. These 2 changes would make it a far more lucrative alternative, especially because sproutrocks allow even 3 gems to warp to be realistically feasible. Also would personally love a durability buff to 10 uses from 5 but that’s moreso a nitpicky buff

It also doesnt help each teleport perk gets better than the last one like:

Wortox: Needs to use souls to TP and he can only teleport a certain distance

Wanda: can put down a TP point anywhere on overworld or caves and doesnt take anything to TP

Winnoa: can TP anywhere, and the things you need to make the items are cheaper than Wanda's

Am I the only one who finds walking anywhere in this game to be a majorly slow slog without a speedy movement stick or cobblestones roads?

I would love for the default walking speed & and everything else to be bumped up just a tad bit more.

Teleportation is so popular on characters because walking is just very very sloooow.

I have this game maybe you’ve heard of it it’s called “Trinity Fusion” and in this game you can Walk around in the central hub but that’s just painfully slow and boring to do, so the developers later added a way to quickly teleport your character to the points of interest within the central hub.

And I think that’s something that makes DST so very very slow… even in DEATH the game feels slow.

In Solo DS if you activated a touchstone then you revived at that spot instantly after dying, but in DST you have to boringly float around the map to find a spot to revive.

I think (especially on Endless where the florid can always revive them) ghosts should be teleported to the nearest reviving option they had available (touchstone, Postern, etc..)

Hey wait a second… ghosts and teleportation, Hell Yeah! #Wendy Rework here we goooooo.

I want to be able to teleport between gravestones like Winona now can wormholes, but only if Wendy is Dead and a ghost.

I couldn’t agree more. This is a necessary change, because when you’re walking from PK to the junkyard to the Moon Stone to the Ruins to NMWP, it gets very tedious very fast. Also, don’t even get me started on Beefalo. For new players, Beefalo are WAY too complicated for an early-game speed boost.

If Maxwell gets a teleport, I will effing scream.

Even if you tied me to a chair and set me on fire, the only way to put me out, would be to force me to say that Maxwell deserves exclusivity of the magician's chest, which we all obviously know, is the hamlet root trunk, you better bring some marshmallows to roast on me, because no way will I ever in good conscience say that the magician's chest's exclusivity on maxwell was ever a good idea.

Maxwell getting a teleport would make me throw up. I'd throw up and post a video of it on the forums.

Well I mean.. didn’t this guy get sucked into a magical hat?

The thing with this is that it probably would bring problems with fights, but I really do want more ways to have faster travel in this game, it is so slow going from A to B.

Yeah, no idea why you go at a snail's pace when you're dead, you cannot do anything other than go back to wherever you can revive, ghost speed should definitely be bumped by a lot.

I meant "could" in the sense of he "could" make himself appear as if he was in the presence of the survivor he greeted (once again as I said above an illusionist (what magicians actually are) thing. I truly adore the "dark" magician / trickster / illusionist theme being kept more as it reminds me of the NPC. I know the "throne" did this but I could see the codex umbra enabling this as well, at a cost)

Sorry I didn't mean to hurt you.

I am super biased on anything that would make Maxwell more like NPC Maxwell because of my unhealthy obsession. xP And actually I would prefer some more troubles for Maxwell (He's too healthy!!!)

I'd forgot to add that if he gets teleportation it should come at a painful cost either in other ways him being handicapped OR the teleportation hurting him physically/mentally/both in some way. (to further make a difference between actual teleportation like Wortex one and illusionist teleportation like I meant what Maxwell's should be)

Anyway I don't actually care if Maxwell will get teleportation or anything since I don't plan to play with "standard" Maxwell anymore. Especially with skilltrees going into the direction of making characters useful for combat (which I downright refuse to do with a DESCRIBED AS FRAIL character like Maxwell if I can avoid it)

With so many characters getting teleportation networks now I kinda wish Klei would give Wendy a Ghost Teleportation transfer System.

Something like a Worshipping Shrine she can build that allows Ghost players to “Haunt” and Teleport around the map to other shrines- Preferably different Graveyards..

But the overall gameplay intent is to get rid of her stupid gimmick of dropping Elixers on the ground in a trail for dead players to haunt for a “Ghostly Speed Boost”

Ugh I hate that… I hate it so sooo much, Anyone who is a dead ghost just boringly floating around all the time probably wants to get back into action as fast as possible, and I’ve seen several of my friends give up on DST when the majority of their time was spent floating back to the florid Postern to Revive themselves.

Ghost Teleports would be new, unique and could even be a lot of fun.. if Klei did them right!

Id love to be able to build a graveyard/shrine near a cave boss and if I “died” I could haunt the shrine to teleport to a shrine I set up near a cave entrance/exit.

It got increased from two characters to three. The world is in shambles.

Yep. Devastating. Truly horrendous. (Klei please don't do any of these.) Nevermind the fact that Klei could have given wormwood a root system teleport with trees or lureplants or something. Could have given Willow a teleport to active fires. Wigfrid a teleportation song, Wolfgang could lit something so heavy he falls through the world onto the otherside like burrowing through the earth. Wilson could create a Ramshackle Portal like he did to get to the constant in the first place.

Point is there are silly things Klei could have done to really make teleportation a thing and didn't. I don't think any other characters will get teleportation.

Woodie has a teleport already with his goose form but it is highly random.
