Excessive trend in exclusivity of worn and held items isn't always conducive to fun or even balancing

Recommended Posts

With the advent of merm tools being unusable for other players, it's extremely unnecessary to take away. It was something fun and not even an optimal choice in a given situation. The amount of time wasted in order to obtain the shoddy tools isn't really worth it, not to mention having to switch between characters just to get it. Like, why?

But obviously, this isn't exclusive to shoddy tools. Things as insignificant as Winona's new hats. The inspectoggles and her rose color glasses which have 0 utility when worn by other characters was still something nice to add to the game seeing your favorite character wearing them and how they look, even if they're functionally useless. You could wear them in the beta. It was no big deal and was fun. By this logic, if Walter were released within the last 6 months, you wouldn't be able to wear his hats either.

Even speaking in terms of items which could have genuine utility that's locked out of use for other characters. For example Wigfrid's battle rond should ABSOLUTELY  be used by other characters. Even if it simply functions as a second Shield of Terror, it's completely fine. It does not diminish Wigfrid whatsoever. The weapon is undertuned anyway. For how expensive and niche it is, I fail to see the value in it. I think having it be useable by other characters will not take away from Wigfrid, but will add a layer of teamwork and actually spark up constructive back and forth between players. It really is not the worst thing in the world for a random Wilson to gather 4 gold and 1 beefalo fur to ask a Wigfrid, "Hey can you plz make rond? and where's base?"

The very essence of Wigfrid is that she distributes gear to other players and with the exclusion of battle rond to this, a bit of her is lost. In my opinion, if there was any sort of Gold Standard for what a switch character should be, it was always Wigfrid. Neglecting every single patch we got after 2019, it wasn't unusual to see people before switching to Wigfrid just to stockpile battle helms and switching back to Wolfgang, and in spite of that, Wigfrid had so much merit for use even if that's all the value you saw in her, because she still has a significant amount of players who use her. And you know this, Klei. You know it all so well. It's no coincidence that she has the greatest amount of skins. She's a chief sugar mama. She bring homes the bacon and she cooks in it the pan too.

The point is, even if there are players out there who will switch to Wigfrid just to make her shields, in a hypothetical world where other characters could use them, Wigfrid is still Wigfrid. The same way if players could use merm tools, Wurt does not lose value either and for whatever reason, if players could use Winona's new hats, it doesn't mean Winona would be weakened at all, especially given the fact that they can't use them for it's purposes.

Idk, klei. I really dk,

Merms will pick it off the ground and use it. Its not meant for players.

I once fought a miserable fighting through the internet to get Winona's catapult to be able to be activated by other characters, but I still think there needs to be a certain degree to character trait communism.
As for Battle Rönd, if other characters can't use the skill of block then should it be okay for other characters to use it.

In fact, the example in Walter and Wigfried is very clear, there is something to think about, for example, we have blackberry armor and a solid wooden helmet that everyone can wear. And not going far from the topic, we have A thing to pump muscles that only Wolfgang uses, why couldn't anyone use it, but without effect, just to play a fun mini-game. But this is just a judgment. It would be cool if the characters would use the objects of others without special effects instead of just skimming the quote. Or they can be given another use. For example, Winona's new "melalic helmet" could be used To move around normally in a desert storm (Vision will still be the same as without desert glasses) and, for example, other characters can use a shield to defend themselves, but bounce off it when hit because they can't hold it properly, unlike Wigfried. In fact, there are many ideas on how to make the interaction .

Wurt is also a merms

Klei forgot in multi players, players have to log off sometimes, and when winona/wurt logs off they expect all their footprints to be unusable trash for other players.
Cant they just add lesser uses?

It's because people kept constantly crying and spamming about how everyone is swap characters. They were always acting like the biggest problem with the game is that you're allowed to use other characters' equipment. Now you aren't any more, Klei listened to the weird nonsense.

I think we have to respect the other characters unique perks. I was always defending this since a forumite showed me how frustrating it is to play wickerbottom when max can simply be wicker no.2

Tell me, how frustrating? Cuz all i feel is joy from not needing to go around read every single book for everyone.
I prefers having 5 maxies around reading book for me while im riding beefalo enjoy good banana shakes.

Rain in cave why other fighting boss? go down and read book.
Rain in surface? read book.
They need to do moon event? read book.
They missed new moon event? read book.
Wormwood need repenlish seeds? read book.
Woodie finished planting tree? read book.
Base low on grass? read book.
....

Also the name of this thread is too long. Make it "we should be able to use merm tools again, and other survival items"

The shield thing i agree with though. But they shoulf make the skills that improve it less useless

No. I think other characters should be able to use battle ronds as well. It's not exclusive to merm tools. Merm tools are perhaps one of the lesser victims of this very unusual and bizarre trend.

Wilson can also be Wicker No. 2 since 99% of her power does not come from actively using the books over a long period of time.

I think there are more important things to worry about like the World Generation than worrying about items not being equippable by other people.

I didnt even know you could've used the shoddy tools yourself, I dont think missing anything here anyways because heard they weren't great.

In fact, it's not that this is a multi-tool that the player wants to use. This is the very "whistle" of Weber, but for wurt, in place of taking up 4 slots to tell the merms what to do (chop, shred, dig, plow), you take up only 1 place and it was very convenient

I think you're allowed to worry about more than one thing at a time, I might be wrong though ;)
