What's your guy's predictions for new skilltrees.

Recommended Posts

I wanna hear the people's ideas for new character skilltrees. I'll go first:

I'm betting the next update will have Walter and Wortox get a skilltree. The two work great in multiplayer, but in singleplayer? They kinda fall flat... Not to mention the fact that Walter is a character that a lot of people already say is flawed by design. Wortox I feel should get a little more, as he literally only has 1 upside, and the rest of his character is just downsides. Everything hates him, he looses sanity fast despite him having reduced sanity loss, getting TOO MANY souls causes you to loose sanity faster, Food barely does anything to him, and souls (which will most likely be your main source of food because ACTUAL food does almost nothing) ALSO REDUCES SANITY.

Wicker, Max and Wanda will become godlike leviathans with their newfound powers

Wortox, Wendy will run out of ideas on what possibly they could add for 15 skill points

Webber will be the de facto server killer with spider lag

Walter will become a character

Warly will finally make me ditch random maining, and will become my new favorite character

Wes will never get a skill tree

As much as I would approve Maxwell returning to his old "creepy guy with creepy powers" state, I am equally fearing him having a fully fleshed out skilltree similar to what they've given other characters so far would make him BORING for me to play. So I'd either have to play my Maxwell mod without skilltree or think for myself of even more [funny / silly] ways to handicap him. And honestly with my little abilities of changing stuff in game I'm running out of ways to handicap him without making him unplayable as single player. [Plus the skilltree will probably once again include something to teleport (which would fit Maxwell's former powers) but that would be useless for me to use, because I've already got this ability in my Maxwell version]

Even if I decided to return to play with standard Maxwell, I'd probably be rather bored if he really becomes a godlike character with his skilltrees. Unless they'd make the skilltree less combat focus.

they seem to try to pick someone that desperately need a skill tree, with others that are doing just fine and could use something fun to do
like woodie and wormwood needing the stuff and wolfgang being already strong and just getting buffs here and there, or wigfrid being pair with willow that definetely could use it.

that means warly and walter wont be in the same update, as both need serious work and thinking to do

so they could pair one of them with wendy or WX who are already fun and powerful just to make it easier to do

Wortox in particular is a character they would do a lot of stuff since his kit is so simple, it is all about the souls, so giving him things to craft with them and spells that use souls go a long way.

characters like wickerbottom and WX do have a lot of "moving parts" so they can go many different ways

I'll still never understand this claim and with skill trees existing it'll never stop being baffling to me. I'm sure klei will just make him very powerful and the people who do say this will suddenly say he's completely fine.

To be fair people said he'd never get a refresh...

Wes will get a 15 point skill tree with only 15 skills, each “skill” makes playing him harder or worse, AND to make sure players aren’t just not investing points into his “skills” they Auto-Unlock themselves.

Thats how you make a “challenge character”

Next up- Only 8 characters have skill trees so far (if you can even count Wilson as having one) that means- Oh dang we got atleast another year and a half maybe 2-3 years to go before everyone’s finally got a dumb skill tree.

The game's not really trending in this direction and even with his refresh while he did get more downsides it still made him a stronger character when you can handle his downsides and with how skill trees are specifically just aimed at powering up characters I imagine it'll just do the same for him or he'll get a Wilson level skill tree.

I really hope that Wes's entire skill tree is making it more difficult, being a way to further customize the "hard difficulty" to +. Just like Supergiant does with its games (Bastion, Transistor, and Hades), we add points in specific aspects to increase the difficulty, in general. So, unlike the other trees, this one would really only have 15 options. Examples of skill points would be ability to make the thermal stone not work (or work very little), causing him to need to wear the robes; food is less effective and buffs are minimized. However, the "good" changes would come intrinsic to the character to avoid confusing players, such as balloon improvements (the speed one really needs to last longer). :wilson_ninja:

That could be possible! I remember someone said that they were asking Wes mains for help with his skill tree, so it might a serious one instead of a meme one

It is Don't Starve TOGETHER and the characters should be designed as such

Not everyone wants to play the singleplayer version, dude. Yes, because it is MAINLY a multiplayer game, there should be some characters that have skills that are built around a team effort. But I believe they should ALSO have skills that make them fun to play alone. Why would people do Boss Rushes or Speedruns ALONE in this game if it wasn't fun to play alone.

I can answer that, maybe they don’t have many friends? Maybe they don’t trust random strangers in online matches where those strangers can be trolls and ruin hours worth of their gameplay progress in a matter of seconds? Maybe they are just Anti-Social but enjoy playing DST because with character Reworks, Skill Trees & all the cool belonging & character skins it’s really freaking hard to go back to the outdated single player game?

Where Klei FAILED and I mean failed miserably however… is that they’re designing DST almost entirely around “group based” activities, and this makes it less of “Dont Starve but now with friends” and more of a freaking MMO-RPG that requires a Team Assembly to be effective.

Yet… they still offer server options to host worlds in Offline Mode or only 1 max players allowed.

thanks you just described me. Also I am one of those people who enjoys doing silly stuff in-game occasionally simple because it's fun to me to have characters suffer. [to stand right inside a burning twig bush and watch the character burn for a little while.] etc. which may be an annoyance to people who play the game "seriously" all the time and are all about combat and everything being perfect all the time. I love chaos A LOT.

I would add that some people like to play alone because the game requires many hours (megabase) and it is almost impossible to have a group that always has the same days and times of availability and desire to stay on a server for so long.

I agree 100%. I only ask for one meme perk, that being the ability to choose which balloon animal and color you make when making basic balloons

Wes's skilltree will give him the balloon mech from his april fool's short.

Though seriously, I hope it's a mix of fun balloon crafts and challenge. If it's all challenge, then Wes would be moving towards what the main issue with his character was. That in a multiplayer setting, Wes's downsides negatively impacted other players since they'd need to share more resources to compensate or carry the Wes. His rework did help reduce this and I hope his skilltree keeps him difficult but a team player.
