beta positivity thread

i love the ocean additions, being able to reasonably find the pirate island has been a big want of mine for awhile, so klei providing environmental clues pointing its direction is amazing. i couldnt have done it better myself. the marotters are also a great addition giving a lot of life to the shallows.

 

overall this update really made the map feel a lot less empty to me at least. like a quarter of the map is now "close to pirates" making it a navigational challenge thats fairly fun to do to find that sweet portal.

while the crab king may need more work, this is one of the better updates for sure, that extra time was clearly well spent.

I agree that they got a lot right with this update, and I have faith they will be able to iron out the stuff that needs work.

I think its a bit silly everyone's doom posting or bad mouthing things when this is a beta build, a build that exists to fix issues and make adjustments. 

I almost wish they took the idea of the pirate markings on sea stacks and applied it to crab king too. He's a king, so maybe he would have some banners or something poking out of the water to mark his territory.

I love the lore implications of the ancient trees, seeing a bit of the world as it was before gives off a wondrous explorer feeling.

Although I didn't play Wurt and still won't after the skill tree (her gameplay is just not my vibe), Klei does a really good job representing characters as always. The king quest is very fairy tale childhood wonder Wurt-like, she gets magical fairy tale wands!!

Same for Winona, I love how she gets to try and see both Charlie's and Wagstaff's "points of view" before locking in an alignment, feels like exactly what Winona would do. Did she side with Wagstaff because she thinks that's the best bet to save her sister? Did she decide that trusting her sister's judgment and accepting her help is the best course of action?? wooo keep tuned for more

I certainly am pretty content with this update. There’s a lot of little helpful QOL things and neat incentives to sail that go a long way in a world, and I think Klei handled it pretty well. I’m pretty optimistic they will make the right tweaks to content that people want, especially since last beta handled those very well.

I also like how it really makes sense for either of them since it's clear neither side fully has her best interests at heart the being that possesses Charlie has no issues manipulating people to get what it wants as shown in both Maxwell and Winona's shorts. One could assume based on her skills Charlie is doting on Winona because she cares so much for her and that might very well be true or it could be her trying to manipulate Winona or even a deeper mind game in that it could be that being possessing her favoring Winona to manipulate their Charlie side. On the Wagstaff side of things it's clear she cares for and respects him and probably sees him as her best ticket to escape the constant once she finally frees Charlie.

On the Wurt side of things I like how her tree makes her being a merm more seamless in gameplay by patching the differences between Wurt and normal merms. I also really enjoy the lore implications of Wurt's alignments with her lunar path giving insight to how shattered spiders ended up like they did and the shadow path doing the same but for the ancients.

What I really liked was the CK boat protection loot.

The fact that he delivered bottles was also really nice.

It's even interesting to think that CK received Pearl's messages and simply ignored her requests.

The new seeds don't make sense to me. These are items with excellent concepts, but poor execution.

 Overall I don't see a big impact on this update unlike the previous one (infinite chests). Not bad, but just OK.

Of course we still have skill trees, but I'm not interested in either of them and so I can't give an opinion.

The impression I have is that three months is still not enough time for the amount of things they want to do at once.

Winona's skill tree has made me a Winona main. I don't like her personality, but I absolutely love building/gadget characters, and the convenience of portable structures makes me wanna play her almost exclusively now. My biggest gripe has already been addressed,which is the absolutely abysmal range on the telebrella. Overall, Klei did a good job at making a fun character

Sailing in this game floods my brain with joy and this beta is making it even better. The worst thing I have to say about the general ocean additions in this beta is that they are a great start but I still want more. More! Telling you what I liked about the ocean changes is just making a bullet point list of every one. Apart from the crab king but I still have hope for him, not to mention that his bottles loot and bumpers loot is a huge win for me

Yes, YES! More ancient era lore, more ancient stuff Klei! Let us winch up ancient eggs from deep ocean to hatch. Let us grow ancestors of current creatures we see in constant.(At least the ones that weren't created by Maxwell)

Also it would be really nice if we get more trees/plants from the suprising seeds. I don't mind the grind klei, just give it to us!

Or maybe an island of freaks and failed experiements that maxwell made and then discarded to some corner of the constant, like the tallbirds but worse lol

Refueling Winona's generators with nightmare fuel is a great option to have (if you take the skill to do so) and makes generators a viable option over GEMerators.

absolutely, I also love that it doesn't lock you into an alignment, nightmare fuel is absolutely a must have for early game winonas.
