Why does "Bog Buckets" in the game not capture insects?

Recommended Posts

Honestly, adding this functionality would cut down on killing chamber/starvation ranching... in a good way! Giving us a vanilla friendly way to automate "food production." Ranch critters, drop 'em off in a Bog Bucket ranch, let nature do its thing, and harvest the leftovers. (also potential alt way to wrangle flyers?)

All critters except beetas and morbs are wrangleable since the October 2023 QoL update. From the changelog:

  • Moos, Pufts, Slicksters, and Shine Bugs can now be wrangled. Their idle behavior has been adjusted to make this possible.

Ah, true. It would be kind of redundant at that point. lol Okay, natural critter trap is out.
The ideas there, though, wild plants that will consume critters, and provide you with... something(?) in return (at the expense of possible critter extinction)... and potential hazard for dupes if they get too close to one in the wild (might need a Biobot or something to harvest it?). It could also be an automated way to handle morbs! Plant one near an outhouse and it'll automatically take care of them pesky morbs!

Idk, I feel like it brings more life to the wild flora/fauna. (still sad we never got the wild Volgus and their dens)

We do also have the Saturn Critter Trap which is useful for producing hydrogen, but it takes a long time to digest a critter so it doesn't really replace a drowning chamber. The plant meat it produces is also not particularly useful for anything except as food for Hatches.
