What would you add to DST for it to feel less... Lonely?

I think it's a bit intentional from Klei, for example when people asked for a follower update, Klei said : not really. (basically)

They want this game to have an eerie loneliness. Followers are not very smart, and that's the point. Just more loneliness water in the bucket.

We can definitely have it both ways if we chose. There are a few biomes and features in the game that literally don't require you to interact with them in order to cross milestones in game. Monkey island does not need to be touched so you can slay all bosses and create a huge base. Also, who even interacts with rock lobsters these days?

I don't know how a follower update would proceed without glitches and exploits, but having an island where there were a wellspring of knowledge to bring to the pigmen to teach them agriculture and labor, it wouldn't be something quintessential to survival while keeping the early game isolated.

I really don't mind it too much though. A survival situation is typically a lonely isolated experience.

So what you do is you make a bunch of mannequins and dress them up and give them names and pretend they're people.

Now you're a true survivalist.

In terms of ambient mechanics, I think it'd be good if pigs interacted with their environment more. Make them give gifts to pig king, make them randomly chop trees or gather grass/twigs. Make them pick berries and carrots from the floor. Also make them a little less unaware of their surroundings - make them less careless around spider webbing, as well as fearful when outnumbered. Additionally, you could make them "claim" the resources that spawn in with pig villages, meaning they will attack players stealing from these.

Spot on. I'd like to see the same with other mobs. I feel like the world of Don't Starve is most dynamic when mobs are interacting with each other. Having animals prey on each other and develop/lose their populations would make the world feel a lot less like it exists just for us.

Pigs cutting trees occasionally would be a nice way to imply that Treeguards don't exist exclusively for the player.

I also feel like it would be nice to have some mob to be able to compete with Spiders spreading tendencies to keep them in check.
