How to keep your boat from smoldering while fishing in summer?

Recommended Posts

If you have a Scorching Sunfish on the line and you're using expensive lures and floats, it's pretty painful to have to cut the fish loose to put out your boat.  I've managed to catch 5, but lost some lures.  Any tricks?

So far I haven't had a smolder with the endothermic fire going.  Could it be that I'm in the last 5 days of summer?  I watched a puffin catch on fire during that time, so wildfires are on.

Oh, I just had my boat smolder while the endothermic fire pit was burning.  I guess I was just lucky.  What's less lucky is that none of the sunfish are heavy!

for that i have a dedicated boat with an iceflingomatic because it extinguish them by their own

is sad that the boat structure dedicated to fight fires is such a mess: needs a fish, can burn, you need to manually acrivate it and doesn't work properly if the boat is is moving

Ice flingomatic.

ice staff/watering can

or just be attentive and manually extinguish smoldering objects yourself

That requires them to have to break their line.

Followers should be able to activate it maybe. It should also be fire proof and take less space. It should work on land too. That would be niche.

dude. ice flingomatic . why does this post even exist.

It didn't really exist (condemned to page 4) until you pointlessly bumped it just to be mean.

I think you can pre-emptively water your boat so everything is wet, then it won't catch fire for a short period. But I'm not positive if that works, I always just use an ice flingomatic since it's the best solution by far.

The Fire Pump! (Though I think it has to be manually operated so that doesn't exactly work for your situation)

Otherwise the Ice Flingomatic or stay underneath a Overly sized Knobbly Tree (though that is also less helpful than ice flingo)

Boats catch fire on this game?!!?

(Thats a joke I know that they Can.. I just personally rarely ever experience it..)

What am I doing differently from you?

Well I’m probably only sailing around on just a grass or wooden raft with a drift oak oar… Even managed to successfully kill Crab King that way (with the help of a billion bees)

But I have noticed the moment you put any sort of structures on your boat that it’s not your boat itself that can catch fire, but rather the structures you place on the boat or lose items on the deck of your boat.

So the TL:DR putting as little as a anchor or steering wheel on your boat makes it possible to catch fire, & just using a flat cookie platform with nothing else on it, seems to make the boats Fireproof.

boat catching wildfire is truly wild thing u find in this game.. do this thing even happen IRL?

A boat is the worst place to be when there's a fire, there's nowhere to go.

if it works on land, would like it if we could use it for gardening,

still, the water pump at it's current state sucks

This is true.  A boat won't smolder, only the structures on it will.

If you're out fishing you can either use a flingo to put fires out, or use an empty boat.

fr this thing is so bad...  I was hopeful when it got added b/c no structure collision and no fuel but when IT caught on fire just wtf smdh...

Only works with water balloond.

Some other tips that might help:

1) Don't get yourself into the long reeling cycle, try to cut it down as much as possible. Row the boat closer to the fish shoal. If you are using an expensive lure and float, throw it in the water and reel it as close to the boat as possible before the fish bites. Then there is no long reeling after it bites, you just pull it out immediately. If you catch the fish faster, you have more control over what happens around your boat.

2) Use rot as a bait and twig as a float, then breaking the line to put out a fire is not an issue since you only lose junk. Sunfish loves rot. You will lose the fish too though, so it's a bit frustrating.

3) Wildfires usually start about twice per day. You can notice when that happens, and time your fishing after it happened a couple of times already. Then it's going to be less likely that it happens again while you fish.

4) Wildfires don't happen after dusk. Just don't fish during the day if nothing else works.

5) Try fish trawlers. They are not portable and can catch fire too but they will make your hands free when fishing so you can put out fires if they happen. You can set them up in the waters where sunfish spawns and visit at dusk to avoid smoldering.

6) No matter what you do, do not fish in summer near Sea Weeds. They can smolder and catch fire from wildfires, and when it happens they all aggro onto the nearby player as if they attacked one of them. I learned this the hard way lol.

I simply keep a watering can and a luxury fan around anywhere including my base since I don't have many flingos. Will be enough just a watering can for a boat since it's relatively a small space to keep fire-free.

That water pump is useless btw imo. They should really just make it usable for watering the farms.

Saltwater will kill the plants.

Needs to be reworked into a Mast upgrade like the Lightning Conductor & Deck Illuminator where it DOESN’T take up extra space on the boat and actually moves WITH The Boat..

Klei can even make it look like a little fishing bowl full of spittle fishes splashing about (where the deck Illuminator light would’ve been..)

As a added bonus to being better at its intended job, it would also now be ABOVE the player acting as sort of a Sprinkler System (boat radius) And since masts can also be placed & upgraded on land… Farm Crops reap the benefits too.

The fire pump is inherently useless. You need to manually pump it, and if you're manually doing something your hands or the watering can do that without the possibility of them being the first thing to catch on fire and becoming unusable. It being a mast upgrade wouldn't do anything to remedy the issues it has.

If they want to keep it how it is with it being manually operated it should make everything on the boat wet & fireproof for a long period of time. Followers being able to pump it could help too.

It's... weird. Because you can.

Placing a garden near the shore and a boat nearby, any water pump droplets that fall onto them will water them.

You can directly aim them by lighting something on fire and the droplets will try to home in on them.
It's weird, cause you can't use watering cans on the ocean water. Unless the Spittlefish cleanse the water, which, maybe they do.

read OP, these methods require to interrupt fishing...
