Follow-up to my previous post about the torch/beard tree being overwhelming. I wanted to gauge community opinion with a poll since that's a pretty easy way to collect data on this kind of question. As the title says feel free to list your reasoning and/or suggestions in the replies.

I like the torch toss and beard storage. The passives can be improved. Though beard storage probably should also slow down spoilage. Alchemy is fine, just needs fossils in craft :)
Shadow bonuses I feel is fine the passives), cant really tell the crafts since I feel like the main issue is the source of the stones

Compact the torch perks and put some other crap in that tree. A perk related to the meat effigy would be neat. Maybe lowered crafting cost, or you can attune without injuring yourself, or you revive with better stats. Those all suck so it could even be all 3.

Torch perks are interesting but don't really add that much value when lanterns are so superior and teaching new players to use torches instead may not be suitable so it would be nice if it affected all light sources.

I think that everything else is fine and doesn't need any big changes.

I appear to be in the minority. I heavily dislike the skill-tree. I would like it if Wilson just got the alchemy/transmutation stuff via a station and threw out the whole skill tree entirely. Just my opinion though. Won't speak for others.
Since I can't revote: I would obviously select "Yes, Replace" on the 5th poll option.

I also think that but for some reason Klei thinks this skill tree is badass and are definitely not going to be abandoning it.

But then people would complain that Klei butchered "the basic character" and they can't play the game the way they did in 2013 anymore.

As for me, I think the torch branch should be expanded into the survival branch and beard branch should have craftable grooming products with wacky effect. The main appeal of the skill tree is building your own character but some branches don't offer a lot of options, so most people would probably choose an Alchemist Wilson with beard storage. If we could also build a Survivalist Wilson or a Crazy Experimentator Wilson. As of now, I don't think they've fully utilized the potential of the skill tree

exactly, plus the torch tree is genuinely... useless, same with the beard one (especially the growth speed skills)z

no hate to torch toss though, I love torch toss, it's cool

Oh yeah needing to choose to not make a structure is gonna have people complain about him getting changes. But making a big skill tree that you're constantly automatically earning points in that's changing the ui of the game is perfectly fine, no one would ever complain.

I don't get your point because you're already describing what they did. Wilson as is stands now on beta is butchered and not anymore "the basic character". Having extra inventory, more beard, throw torchs as lanterns (I know it's weak but still), transmutate twigs in logs, rocks in marble, gems in other gems, skip entirely the end of the game, doing more damage to all lunar things, don't scream at all "basic character".

Also, @inzecta it would be cool to have an option replace/rework/fine for the skill tree thing entirely, not just part of the tree, thanks :)

I mean that you have an option not to allocate insight points and play Wilson the way he was pre-rework. You cannot do the same with any reworked character (unless with mods, of course).

if you want the basic character then don't use any of the points :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

The torch tab definitely needs a rework.

1- It's the only tab that truly doesn't add anything to Wilson. It only affects one item.

2-lantern is one of the first and easiest upgrade available to players.

3-The fact that you can ignore one of the skill trees means that you will have enough points for rest of the stuff, Which kills the entire point of the rework.

in the end, everybody's skill tree will look something like this:

look at me guys i dont like the direction that dont starve is going, thus, i dislike the wilson rework when I have the option to keep him the basic character that 'he should be'
:D

oh yea also you dont deal more damage to all lunar mobs

Weirdly provocatory but okay, lol. Just because you have a cake in front of you that you can eat, doesn't mean you will stay idle and do nothing. Obviously everyone will use the stupid skill tree thing and abuse it the hell out of it in the long run. Did you know you could play as Woodie as basic character and never touch the curses? Mind blowing isn't? :-o

Good on you that you enjoy this rework, seemingly with no flaws at all and enjoy Wilson being swapped a lot for the rest of his life. Cover your ears and think everything is fine.

Yes btw, you deal more damage to lunar entites, never said mobs, according to Klei. If then, those entities are restricted to just 1 mob, it's another discussion.

But you can’t, Woodie will automatically transform upon a full moon

Bush hat or caves

Fair enough but I have two things to say about that

I could be wrong but the Bush Hat trick seems to be an exploit that doesn’t even seem to work consistently without some setup… it’s also an exploit, I don’t believe we can judge the design of the game (when it comes to ignoring downsides) based on a glitch that’s clearly not intended.

Secondly, I would argue that going spelunking every full moon is exactly you not ignoring Woodie’s downside, that’s you having to change your playstyle to deal with it. Is it anything that compliments the character? Not really but the fact remains that you can’t just “completely ignore” woodie’s downsides.

It also works with the snurtle shell armor, so I think it''s more likely an intended mechanic. As long as you're hidden before the full moon  night arrives you'll prevent the transformation.
