timeexplorers Posted January 16, 2023 Share Posted January 16, 2023 Heya longtime no see I wanted to know if there has been any mention of changes or specification of the reward drop rate since they revised the system in the 2019 Winona rework update? Theres no mention of it in the official release article (see here) and the only official mention of the drop rate from any developer is from 2015 when the game is still in beta (see here). I need this information for my thesis as I'm using Don't Starve Together as my main case study; my thesis is on how engagement rewards (daily logins, season passes, etc) affect player motivation to engage with the game. Within it I'm comparing the daily login system to the normal reward system to see why players would forgo playing the game to earn the rewards and instead just login to earn them instead, my curent idea is that daily logins are a simplerer way to earn the same rewards and thus highlight the flaws in the original reward system. These being that the undisclosed amount of time required to receive each reward will often be greater than the value of the reward, leaving many players unsatisfied and causing them to lose motivation to play for the rewards and simply opting for that of the daily logins. Its all basically the player working towards the same thing its just a difference of seconds to hours. If anyone can please comment with any information on the current drop rate times that would help me greatly. Also if you have experienced anything simmlair or any thoughts on what I've talked about above that would help me immensely. As far as i can tell weekly you can get 8 skins while you play 1 hour +- for each one, resulting in a higher chance to get what you want. Both the play time and the login rewards have the same chances in rarity. For me atleast the weekly 8 resets on Thursday at 23:00 There is this one mod called drop reset countdown which shows when these reset in your zone if you need it for some statistics. I'm not aware of updates to the drop system other than when winter feast is around winter chests replace common drops. These chests give 4 skins but only winter ones. Kyno Posted January 16, 2023 Share Posted January 16, 2023 (Need confirmation) There was a time during previous Hallowed Nights/Winter's Feast events, the Trade Inn drop rates were raised. People were getting tons of elegants and stuff. I don't know about the daily/weekly drops though. Aeglefire Posted January 16, 2023 Share Posted January 16, 2023 I can add my confirmation that the Winona update + drop times update (the link you posted) was the last I heard of changes to the drop system. Though I've never personally reached up to 8 skins dropped in a week, I don't think. Maybe someone can post if they've gotten 8 in-game drops within a full week. And I'm not sure if the time between in-game drops is constant between every gift. It seems, to me at least, that for instance the time you have to wait between the 3rd and 4th gift drops is higher than the time you have to wait between having no drops and getting your 1st gift drop. Someone else may want to confirm. I got Coldfire Shoes, Ice Floe Heels and Jolly Elf boots like a billion times this Winters Feast. Not sure if Klei is telling me to play more or to buy a Payless Shoes franchise. JeMiChi Posted January 17, 2023 Share Posted January 17, 2023 I can confirm that you can get 8 drops in a week (plus the daily log-in rewards, so up to 15 gift items per week - counting event chests as a single item). The weekly rewards take about an hour of playtime each. I can't confirm this, but I think that time resets when you leave the server, so when you play again, it takes about an hour to receive the next reward even if you played before.
