[Suggestion] The End is Nigh to be reworked similar to Aporkalypse

Recommended Posts

The general idea I have for the book is to have a lot of upsides and downsides for a day while the book is in effect, generally creating more chaos in the world. If you're going to mention griefing potential, save it. If anything, it is more obvious whether you are 'griefing' with the book because of the worldspread effects. The effects aren't the worst if you have lightning protection anyways. I would prefer to be more stealthy if I were griefing with something.
Under this book's effect world events happen similarly to the Aporkalypse in the Hamlet DLC.

Costs: 2 papyrus, 2 red gem, (1 hostile flare?)
Science: Shadow Manipulator
Durability: Two uses

Sanity tolls:
- 50 as Wicker
- 100 as Max
- 200 sanity as Wurt

- Thunder spawns at random every 10 seconds or so (but no rain).
- At nights thunder spawns like Hurricane season in SW (every second or so)
- Creates a reddish color cube over the world
- Daytime is replaced with dusk
- Frogs will stay out during dusk
- Odds of spawning treeguard/poison birchnut are increased significantly
- Hunts have a 0% chance to lead to a Koalaphant
- Only Killer bees will spawn and aggro rates are longer (similar to spring)
- Beefalo without domestication/taming progress go into heat (but can be taken to caves)
- Enemy's hostile ranges increase
- Enemy 'den' respawn rates are faster
- If it's precipitating, there's a chance for frog rain to begin regardless of season
- Meteor showers will begin in meteor fields
- Certain ocean fish become unavailable (any Fish that don't have a chance to spawn in Rough/Hazardous water)
- Chances to encounter Rockjaw, Skittersquid, and Monkey raids increase in the water
- If there's a hound wave it will be amplified
- Enemy waves cooldown timer will go down twice as fast
- Chances for special hounds increase
- Terrarium becomes corrupted automatically
- Ghosts will appear from graves
- Bosses will become a harder variant of themselves when possible
- Shadow creatures and gestalts become more likely (Terrorbeaks will appear more though)
- Fruitfly boss will spawn on the next rotted crop
- Winter/Summer will always be at the peak temperature
- Items spoil faster
- Chances for tree petrification is higher
- Flowers will all be evil flowers (but will be turned back when EiN is over)
- Twice as many bats from cave entrances
- Bunny/Bunnymen turn into beardlings
- Bunnymen/Pigs/Merms are constantly scared
- Takes half monsterfood to convert pigs (2)
- Unnatural portal works faster
- Krampus naughtiness cap is halved
- Fires spread a lot faster
- Any passive mob that has a 'home' will try to stay inside
- Antlion tribute reduced by a lot
- Everything grows much slower except crops and lureplants
- Earthquakes in cave are more frequent
- The book changes the nightmare cycle and starts at nightmare phase
- (Maybe) Boss cooldowns are reduced

The books effects will end on the next day.
The book can be read in caves, but there will be no red light except from the cave entrance and sinkhole lights

If you have a good idea I'll add to the list. ^^

This was meant for the Beta branch btw.

Make so the boss respawn timer goes by 2x ~ 4x as faster, and a way to have everyone in the server agree to the effects (maybe casting creates a ritual circle, everyone/majority needs to be inside it for the book to take effect?).

I would think verbal agreement could be enough, but if there was a thematic visual applying to the aporkalypse calendar that would be rad.

Mostly this. People clearly don’t want that much power over the world locked behind a character. Full moons (besides for Woodie) are harmless and yet look what happened to that book.

An aporkalypse level event like what you describe sounds really cool tbh, but to be some late game shenanigans like the moonstorm.

I think that book could either drop some special Lightning that stun the enemies hit for a couple of seconds, or drops some special lightning that does not affect other players and deals quite a bunch of damage each (much more than a regular lightning, like 80 damage each hit, 200 if wet) or both things. I think that was sort of the original idea behind it. The book is somewhat costly, specially early on, and does not work in the caves, I think it deserves to pay homage to its name like that.

Spoiler

The uses for a book like what I describe would most likely be to lower the numbers of creatures that overwhelm you, like spiders or hound waves, or even pirates, basically killing some of them instantly in an area, randomly. And remove the friendly player killing effect.

It does sounds like a lot of power but it's just changing some game rules. Again, there's a lot of downsides to the book that easily outweigh. You already have characters that can TP where they want have a natural speedboost, and some that are inherently stronger. I really wouldn't think something like this is comparable in power. I feel like people exaggerate the books effects at times.

I mean I’m totally in for Wickerbottom to manipulate nature I actually supported all the new books from the beginning, the thing is that people don’t seem to want game changing events behind a single character. People who likes this sort of things will probably want to be able to start it as Wanda or Wolfgang or Wendy or whoever they play.

The idea is great, but I can sort of understand that it would probably work better for everyone if it was available to any character.

That is how I feel about some of the books. I've gotten an impression from Klei that they were intent to add this feature (moon/rain book) for Wicker's rework for a while despite the character specific implications and they wanted to give an incentive to play the Wicker for those reasons. Not to say that the concept shouldn't be questioned of course, but along with my original opinion with the book was that I thought the rain book was going to removed for balancing really soon but so much attention was on the other book. Something easier to turn on the rain has been suggested a lot before but now all the sudden a Wicker can toggle it at whim. To be fair for seasonal compensation everyone is able to get an eyebrella now, at least. And moonstorms have always been a thing for a while if you cared that much about consistent full moons.

If there was a specific item/event instead of a book that also did this effect I wouldn't mind either. I just kind of saw it fit opportunity for this event to be the replacement.
