[Suggestion] Buff the Seawreath's sanity drain

Recommended Posts

Currently, the Seawreath is in a pretty bad spot cause it takes 6 days to drain ~64 sanity, whereas eating its ingredients gives 120 sanity (twice as much) on the spot. Even for those who can't eat Kelp Fronds (Wigfrid and Warly), the Seawreath is still too slow to be worth it.

It should give at least -3.33 sanity/minute (negative Top Hat), or better yet, given the comparative rarity of enlightenment areas, -6.67 sanity/minute (negative Tam o Shanter).

imo sounds kinda dumb to give a hat made out of kelp the strength to ward off the aura of the moon, and considering it takes hardly any effort to craft one, where as tam requires you to survive until winter and kill a mob that only spawns like 6 times in 1 winter, and only has a 25% chance of dropping one.

Yeah, it'd be like wearing a fancy hat to ward off the power of the shadows that consumed an entire civilization.

It takes no effort and it functionally useless, cause it takes 6 days to drain half as much sanity as its ingredients can drain in 6 seconds.

The tam is also universally useful, whereas the Seawreath is only (theoretically) useful on the Lunar Island and in the Lunar Grotto, and even then it's only (potentially) useful as something you'll craft on your first visit to the Lunar Island. (Afterwards, you'll be able to farm Kelp Fronds on your own and you're probably gonna eat them raw if you want to lose sanity.)

To be fair, it's daperness that wards off insanity by strengthening the characters confidence (I'm assuming). The moons influence is something else entirely.

I think that even if we increase the effect it won't make the item any more useful. The parts of the game that require protection from the moons influence are very minimal and isolated. Suffering from high enlightenment is also not a big hazard as gestalts are very much of a threat. For battles it's also better to use the bone helmet as it doesn't use durability when simply worn or food that offers instant respite. Even if you were to double or triple the effects of the Aurora, eating it for the instant effect would still be favorable I'm a pinch.

I think a better effect would be to give it summer insulation and increase wtness for those that do not have an eyebrella or summer starts. It won't break records or anything but it will be additional option and give it a summer niche.

Another idea is to give it an additional unique ability, as such as acting as a bush hat at sea (pesky sharks) or give immunity to tentacle attacks ( they think you're a tentacle). Just some examples, I'm not feeling too creative right now

Edit: I think reducing the aggro range from water mobs would be great. It would allow the player to fish in any area provided they don't get too close or attack first.

Also to be fair, you can currently just eat the gross food to yucky the evil moon away.

I mean if we had more hats to drain sanity for the lunar areas one could view the seawreath as the garland of them.

Currently we only really have two hats that really do that like how dapperness would for raising sanity, the seawreath and the milkmade hat. They just both don't drain quite enough sanity to be too useful for getting out of enlightenment. Staying out of it though is something the hats are more capable of, but even then there's plenty of positive sanity auras.

To be fair x2, eating fresh warm pink poop from a giant bug can cause overwhelming mental trauma. Subjective oneself to mental and emotional pain can make it hard to hear the whispers of the moon.

to be fair, glommer buddy is confused as to why you eat his poop.

I don't think it'd be that bad of an idea to either make the seawreath cheaper, or buff its sanity drain.

To be fair x3, I'm a Wormwood main so poop IS on the menu.

I don't think the problem is the seawreath itself but how niche the act of dropping sanity passively is (vs instant).
