I like these kind of emotional support group therapy we’re doing over Wolfgang’s rework.

Wolfgang didn't deserve this..... His players are brothers in arms, seeing another wolf was always a treat.

I am at the point where im ready to move on.

Reworks excite me because its a chance to take a dull character and give them more exciting things to do, something i feel hasnt really been done with Wolf outside of getting an exclusive ranged weapon. They tackled an issue some had with him being OP and therefore boring, but they didnt really tackle the issue of his kit simply being boring.

This year we had the Webber rework, who also had a pretty boring kit but was given the much needed depth of being able to recruit different spiders, and introducing a new healing spider providing utility to his kit.

Wolfgang, on the other hand simply changed how you aqquire his damage perk. The perk itself was given no extra depth. If they had taken the approach of maybe tieing the damage to combat abilities you could use while mighty and these abilities cost mightiness instead of the damge just being in the form of a modifier then he would have comparable depth to other reworks.

For example, since abilities are limited to right clicking in game, perhaps to solve the issue of having multiple of them would be to tie them to weapons. Right-clicking with a spear would make you polevault, with a thelucilite club maybe you do a spin attack that increases your movement speed for the duration, etc.

So its a shame that he will still be a character i largely have no interest in playing, but oh well.

I do hope some of the backlash to this rework will prevent them from making the same mistakes with whats left of the remaining reworks and i truly challenge klei to be as creative as possible. Some are saying his rework was based on mods, i cant speak to whether that is true or not, but it certainly would explain why the rework is lackluster.

If you’re going to speak about me, you should ping me so you can say it with your chest.

Wolfgang’s linear scaling doesn’t make challenges difficult, it makes them annoying because you end up micromanging Wolf’s hunger because the difference between 1 shotting a spider and 2 shotting a spider or stunning dfly or not stunning dfly or dodging perfectly vs dodging too early and taking an unnecessary hit is worth the work.

But do I miss any of that nonsense?  Absolutely not.

Wolf now has even better synergy with a rider beefalo, because the only thing he needs a beef for is speed, and if using a beef to transport a heavy object Wolf doesn’t lose any mightiness.

Belt of hunger synergy is still there because you reduce the cost of gym use by 40%, and without linear scaling 51 damage weapons are actually useful against certain enemies.

Right now we know the least about how to optimize new wolf’s playstyle.  If we can reliably get 2 stuns solo on dfly that could be a faster and easier strategy than is being used right now.

I'm fairly new to forums I don't know how to ping. I completely agree with you on everything but the "no speed is good for him" and that dragonfly fight was awkward due to it. It was not, I never noticed it, seemed fairly easy to kite her on a road.

I'm not sure how belt of hunger is a great synergy, managing food is very easy. I've done slurper challange in the past that's where you spawn slurper at the start and make him suck your hunger 10 times as fast. And it was hard but managable. A little hunger drain reduction is silly, but I still appreciate character interaction items. Belt of hunger was always best for Wolfy and now he is repurposed.

And now that speed boost is gone beefalo is indeed great for Wolfgang. Beefalo rides still have heavy items equipped when they ride, so carrying potatoe sack a beefalo or something is how you keep him mighty. Unless he loses it? Haven't checked but he shouldn't in theory.

Can confirm that you don’t lose mightiness on a beef when carrying something heavy as it still counts as equipped.  Tested it yesterday.

It’s like people don’t care to actually PLAY a characters changes before complaining about it.. Yes they removed Wolfgang’s Speed.. But the clear Intent was you would get a Beefalo (there’s even scrapped art of him being able to use the Beef as a Mobile Gym) The Original Wolfgang Mains don’t realize that Klei took away his Speed so you will find creative ways to PLAY HIM DIFFERENTLY.

The Day 1 Beefalo Mount (even when not fully tamed) still let’s you ride him.. it bucks you off after a short time but simply fed it a few twigs and hop back on.. each time the timer before your thrown off again increases in duration until eventually: it no longer throws you off at all.

Beefalo also have 1000hp and heal themselves Passively when Outside of Combat.

I think there is a little more Klei could still do for this rework (such as the Another Wolfgang thread I made or allowing him to pump his Dumbells as a passive thing he just does on his own if your on a Beefalo)

A few more things to do in Mighty mode like being able to use sheer power to lift boat masts or anchors, new lifting animations for each of his different transformation sizes:

Other then that- I really don’t think he needs much else.

Lol, I dunno why I find it hard to believe that Klei did that one on purpose.  Carrying a boulder around, just to maintain might on a beefalo? Seems a little too far out for me, consider if his might drained while holding it he wouldn't get his speed boost carrying them on foot. That gimick idea sucks too I'd prefer a new item or tweaks than doing that early game.

Nah, it's very deliberate in my view. There is no point in this perk otherwise imagen getting speed redused to half just to not maintain meter.

Anyways, point is we got yet another beefalo character. Thanks klei.

Beefalo are 1000hp passively healing tanks, they are cute: as seen here-

And unlike pet den critters they never ever ever beg endlessly for food.

When the YoTB event ended Klei kept in the game permanently the Beefalo Bell, The Beefalo Wardrobe, and the Beefalo Hitching Pole

Your Beefalo is now bound to the BELL not you.. and if you drop the Bell on the ground it goes to its location (it still sort of is bound to you though other people can’t just steal your Beefalo, it even does the whole rearing up animation if they try)

So if you want do fights like Dragonfly without your Fuzzy companion becoming Meaty Stew, you can leave it behind bound to a bell or hitched to a post just outside of Dragonfly’s fighting radius.

Is it extra steps beyond just having built in speed? Absolutely.. but the big man shouldn’t run like an Olympic sprinter either.

Thanks, I know how beefalo works already tho, so you can probably stop trying to sell me one.

I'm not buying a cow! Go away!

If Wolfgang's wanted to use beefalo before this rework they would have I'm sure.  Beefalo are a faster more sustainable form of travel. They are also such a pain in the ass to get used to so most players don't bother with them in general lol even the people who benefit the most from them.

I mean I'm definitely gonna use beefalo as Wolfgang now, and I'm even gonna have fun doing it. But Wolfgang is not what he used to been and that's just sad.

I'd rather have a fast running death machine that he was before it's his real identity.

ehhhhhhh

I'll admit one of the main reasons I like the wolfgang rework is because it nerfed him in a way that would make that one youtuber (edgy rick) angry

but I just personally think that the character was just way too strong for his own good, ya'know? having some of the best damage in the game AND high speed is just a bit too much, but to me, he's now strong, but not enough too be considered TOO STRONG

He means that you are happy with the nerf because it's gonna upset 1 guy you dislike. Now that's some nice attitude to have towards charcater rework.

Or rather it would, if he haven't quit dst by now.

You should be a Wolfgang main then!

(it’s a joke don’t get offended)

Ahem anyways: I hope they focus more on Might as all his vignettes portray and less on giving him back speedy go fast Andale Andale Yee-Haw!

Like I said, people just couldn't care less about Wolfgang. And honestly I'm more upset at that than the nerf of speed.

More vanity requests with zero gameplay value. Like I said, people couldn't care less about Wolfgang.

I don’t think it was intentional on a beef, but a side effect of it being done that way for maintaining mighty on foot (since wolf moves at 60% normal speed instead of 15% normal speed)

The purpose is that when you move heavy things around (most likely in mighty form) you don’t have to spend mighty meter to do it.  So it is an alternative way to move marble things around without using a beef.

For those tasks, Wolf is much less reliant on a beefalo than he was before, because the speed boost made little difference when carrying heavy things (it was still less than 20% normal speed, as opposed to 60% now)

I guess wolfgang just ain't hip with the kids nowadays, now that you got yer wandas and wendys

people just don't seem as the best character so they just couldn't care less about him (tbh, me included)

well, a majority of people who do like wolfgang have stated that they like the speed removal soooooooooooooooooooooo

The thing you have to look at and consider the most is reading his Compendium description: because that is a brief overview of how the character is meant to be portrayed and play.

None of that mentions speed anywhere in it.

If you want a “Better Wolfgang” then you need to read his Compendium and suggest cool ideas based off of that.

And in fact: the only argument that could be had in bringing Wolfgang’s speed back is that he has an actual Wolfman skin set and could be a supernatural Werewolf.

But even then it’s such a minor thing that if SPEED is the only thing that was defining Wolfgang’s Personality & Playstyle: Hahaha well then- That should speak for itself.

Like whom? The only one I can think of is Toros - a truly loyal Wolfgang main. He will play him even if his perks are bad and boring. But he has some kind of history of hating on speed boost. Something about it being annoying during kiting or something. I still don't really get it. And that's about it, only one reasonable person dislikes speed, and his reasoning for it is a very personal issue.
