Is there any way to plant Knobbly Tree Nuts in small lakes?

You could do the out of bounds trick while carrying a tree nut, and then have a friend close the gates to push you onto the ocean. You will drown but the tree nut will drop. This should hopefully work for you.

A large amount of chesspieces can also push both the player and the knobby tree.

I tried doing that in one world. The nut just appears back on land.

What the heck.

Sinking mechanics with heavy objects are weird, for me the heavy object does teleport like a short distance away in the water and drops there instead of where I dropped it in the water, but I've never had one teleport back to land.

Tried it but as __IvoCZE__ said, the nut teleports back to the land :(

What if you had Lag Compensation set to predictive and you had a speed boost (such as overcharged WX)? There's a delay before you get booted back on to land, but it might be insta-drown too.

I recommend a mod "new boat shapes", with it you can create custom boats, and choose pretty much any size and shape. I used it for the same purpose of knobby trees in these small lakes like this.

THANK YOU!!!

This mod actually lets you make really small boats and it fit on my lake, thank you very much.

I really wish Klei add some form of planting Knobbly Tree on small lakes without the use of mods or bugs in a later update.

Thank you guys for helping me, look at my tree :)

I'll get my friends to help me test this tomorrow. I'll let you know if it works

Unfortunately that likely won't work.

I looked into the code and the game specifically checks if the area the heavy object is going to sink in has enough space for a boat. This makes a lot of sense actually, because griefers could do something such as take important heavy objects(marble pieces, lunar altars) and sink them in this hard to reach spots with no way to get them. Very unfortunate, so all we got is to hope that Klei gives us a way to put heavy objects in and out of these hard to reach spots some day.
