No Speed Boost Is Actually BAD Change For Wolfgang

The speed boost when mighty was making the boss fights too easy. Rush bee queen now (no cane etc) and you'll see you can no longer dodge all grumbles, even on a road, and bee queen is even harder to dodge. It takes longer to get to larvaes at dfly if you dont cheese it. AG is harder to hit multiple times, etc.

Like i said multiple times however (and honestly don't even know why i bother), speed boost was used predominantly in moving around, which is more than half of game time.

Most of the people that think the nerf is good simply walked around with normal wolfgang with a backpack and a cane. They can't even imagine how running around with a cane, magi and next to full might speed changes the game. For them it's no big deal because they simply didn't use wolfgang that way.

Normal mode should have the speed boost back. And wimpy should have an even higher speed boost and high penalty (not being able to use weapons and armors). 

This would also provide a reason to switch between forms and cruise the threshold between normal and mightiness, working out just enough (and manipulating hunger just enough) to finish a fight and get back to normal to move forward.

 

Right now there is literally no reason at all to NOT be mighty if you can. They managed to make Wolfgang unidimensional, whereas before you would even allow other forms intentionally to heal better and/or waste less food.

 

I fully agree with the weight changes (makes it feel like a strongman and it fits) and slowing down his early game a bit, but the speed nerf is just a fukup, no other nice way to put it.

@HowlVoid and @Blunty_xit's not a chore, they slowed down the early game a bit which is fine. As soon as you get the gembell, you get mighty so fast it's not an issue, you just need to maintain hunger well so you don't degenerate hunger points faster. As soon as you get boss statues, the gym makes you mighty almost instantly.  You are almost guaranteed around 2 gembells by just digging graves and you can have a boss statue by day 10 (dfly/eye). You can throw your stone dumbell day one and be wimpy all the way to a boss fight (or when slaughtering 1000 spiders for bee hats).

Am I the only one who felt like Klei actually wants people to play Wolfgang across all 3 of his Transformation stages and not just always stay topped off at Mighty 24/7?

I mean if they wanted you to stay mighty the thresholds for reaching it would be like 60% of might meter instead of where it’s at now 75% and if they wanted you to feel seriously punished at Wimpy it would be 0-10%

I think NOT being able to just eat 30 carrots and be strong all the time really opened his character up to feeling risk, danger & reward in the times you CAN be Mighty.

Like it feels more powerful to gain that strength and then own enemies with it.. rather then how he was pre-rework where there weren’t many times you were ever going to be left Unmighty..

Perogi is no longer your Super Pill.. you don’t get free hunger, free healing, free strength and free speed from just scarfing down perogi..

I actually managed to get killed by a group of spiders at night because in addition to them not letting me get close enough to my campfire to refuel it, I also had no time to pump weights and get Strong.. so I was running around in circles around a campfire as spiders try roam into my area and aggro onto me so I’m doing circles, there are nightmare hands spawning to take the fire so in addition to dodging spiders & being unable to workout- I had to also run the hands away from the fire, it was Starting to become Winter and the Wimpier Wolfgang got.. the less insulation his body had: I DIED to those spiders because 

The spiders were going to kill me, the nighthands were going to take my only light source if I ran too far away AND I was freezing to death because the freaking spiders would not let me get close enough to refuel my freaking campfire…

not sure if PC can just drag and drop logs onto a fire with point and click features from a safe distance away… but on XBOX you have to be right next to the fire to refuel it..

All these things stacking together lead to me DYING.

this is the DONT STARVE experience, this is how the SINGLE PLAYER game used to play and feel.. when all these problems stacked on you all at once: it’s exciting & actually proves to be challenging to overcome.

OLD Wolfgang never gave me that feeling.. All of Old Wolfgang’s problems could be solved by just eating 60 butterfly wings.

NEW Wolfgang.. I have dumbells I can throw to more easily obtain butterfly wings.. but they won’t help me at all in being Mighty.

Don’t you see that these changes made Wolfgang a more fun character to play that actually has just a tiny bit of challenge to him now?

Yes. Yes you are. No benefit to other forms is a clear sign that this is another meter to maintain.

I don't understand how not just having a torch in that situation could have saved you entirely.  Sounds like the issue you have is the janky controls on console versions.  Plus why waste dumbbells on butterflies when you can walk up and punch them?  Wolfgang used to be able to kill rabbits in mighty form too cause his speed boost could catch them running back into their holes if he ran at them cutting them off.  The new style is suppose to pump before battle so you went wrong there too, you get punished for poor decision making not because you're playing Wolfgang.

Gi-go, please, I can't convince people with malice and sarcasm only understanding, I'm sorry we couldn't save the speed we did what we could. But I beg before we lose our credibility for all the changes, and tweaks that have been brought up to fix what has been lost. We shouldn't stoop to pettiness or insults, allow the ones hoping for this conflict to not get it.  And look forward to the inevitable we may not be able to return to the past but at least we can diverge the course of our fate. So come on there is still time, not everyone that disagrees is an enemy. But a potential friend, of a different mindset.

A fully upgraded gym can give you 6.5 minutes of mighty in about 5 seconds.  If you are just exploring and don’t need mighty form specifically, you can get 16 minutes of non-wimpy for about 10 seconds or let yourself go wimpy for a long trip and spend 15 seconds to go 0-100.

If you’re relying on potato sacks or non-gembell to maintain mighty you’re going to feel like you’re wasting a ton of time, because you are.

I like the new wolfgang (personally) 

it feels like wolfgang is now who he's meant to be, the stongman

it doesn't make sense for wolfgang to be fast, he's not called "the athletic" or "the speedy" he's called the strongman for a reason, it's because strength is his main attribute, and just eating food somehow making wolfgang mighty and giving him speed doesn't make much sense, but lifting weights making him mighty DOES make sense 

and besides, walking doesn't kill you, it's a good downtime where you can think about what you're planning to do next, and besides, if you're really bothered by the speed problem then just try playing WX or something, or just using a walking cane with a magni amulet, it really isn't the end of the world

After playing both Pre-Rework & Reworked Wolfgang for a full day with no other character choices choose for the 48 hours of play: I can say with utmost certainty that the new Wolfgang is Superior to the old one, I don’t even CARE about the Speed: if I want to get around the map faster I will get a Beefalo, you don’t even have to TAME them anymore and can ride them as early as Day 1 (being thrown off isn’t going to matter if your not in a boss fight) 

Old Wolfgang having high health, high damage & high speed with his only downside being not eating enough was too much.. Klei even admitted in his Rework they went into it with the intent to nerf him BECAUSE it Was too much.. & now what we have is something that could use a little more work…. But being Mighty feels like you’ve EARNED it and he doesn’t feel so “cheap” compared to the rest of the cast.

For me as the #WendyMain I see him as being a viable character choice when I don’t feel like playing Wendy.

I play Wendy because I love her quotes, sounds, skins and gameplay mechanics: Not because she’s LoLz easy mode.

Wolfgang would be no different: I don’t want an LoLz Easy Mode character: I want something with different, unique & fun gameplay mechanics: Right now he needs a little more love but it’s still pretty great.

I can’t think of any given situation where Old Wolfgang’s Speed would ever be truly important (unless I was just really really bad at dodging enemy attacks without it)

Not really, I'm just annoyed that people still think speed removal and rework are the same topic. Rework is great. you like it, I like it, everyone likes it. 

But speed removal is just a completly unrelated thing klei did, because someone said "Wolfgang op" 2 year ago. They didn't reworked his speed, they just cut it out and noone is happy. There are people who are upset (some more, some less) but majority just don't care.

And speed is not comming back because majority just don't care. This is why I'm upset.

Klei most probably had a reason, but I can definitely see why you're upset

but thing is, my guy, people's opinions are people's opinions, it's really hard to change them so as my mama would say
