Conveyor rail thermo sensor issue

Thermo sensors tend to stay on their last known status. So if there's nothing to trigger a change they won't do anything new.

Now... if you place any kind of sensor right on top of the exit end of a bridge then that will indeed cause issues.

Of course, a screenshot will help us better see what is haunting your thermo sensor.

To be honest that may be the issue, the thermo sensor is right beside the conveyor rail cut off so Ill try extending that and see if it sorts it.

See pic for my revised setup, the thermo sensor was immediately under the conveyor shutoff originally, just waiting to see if I get the same issue of the sensor glitching.

Ok here we go, so as you can see the thermo sensor is reading 572.1 and the conveyor in that tile is showing as empty when in fact it has some copper ore in it. The sensor will now not update until I toggle the sensor from below to above and then back again.

And another one, as you can see Ive cursored over the sensor, the conveyor rail is showing as being empty when it is not so the rail is now stalled until I intervene.

Is the rail moving?
If rail is not moving then sensor won't help you. And sensor needs to be directly before shutoff to route proper packet out.
You need to create a rail loop using bridge to loop it around and insert copper ore with another bridge into that loop.

No the rail stops when it is above temp. Then it should start again once below.

Yes it going to stop but, The piece of ore that you monitoring is already went pass the sensor there's no way it gonna detect that one, You have to loop it to monitor it again. And you have a gap between shutoff and sensor so even if it work it's not accurate.

1. Create a loop but leaving one tile for a bridge(Orange) to create a complete loop (Red line).
2. Put a shutoff wherever you want on rail place a sensor next to it and it must follow direction of your loop. (Blue circle)
3. Place a bride for an input resource. (Green circle)

You can use it as a model for gas or liquid as well.

There is something that needs pointing out.

If for some reason that has not been addressed or planned for, the contents of the conveyor rail change state, (from solid to liquid, for example) then what's left on the conveyor rail is an empty basket (packet).

The reading from the game in OP's screenshot needs to be taken as correct. The rail is empty and there is an empty basket clogging up the works:

Empty baskets don't interact with thermo sensors, ever.

Now, how to get rid of empty baskets?

Bridges are the natural enemy of empty shipments. Use a loop like SackMaggie's suggested above to drive them to a bridge. It will be taken care of by using the game's internal mechanics at that point.

There is another problem that can happen with thermo sensors that can be seen more often than not in conveyor rails and this also has to do with another internal mechanic of the game:

Thermal conductivity for any amount under 1 gram is non-existent. This means that in the unfortunate event that such amount is sent by the conveyor loader then it will not change temperature and will eventually clog up any rail that has a thermo sensor as a condition to exit.

A timer sensor to toggle the conveyor loader can help avoid this scenario altogether. (This also saves power...)
