Request: More starts

Quite likely world generation will be saved up for last just like they did with the Launch Update which increased World Types (from 1 to 9), Traits (all new) and various new biomes (forest, rust, saltwater, barren, frozen core) in one. The reasons for that are quite simple I suppose:

  • It has to be done at once to test best (since many won't like to generate a new game for a small update)
  • The impact is huge (PR/advertising shenanigans)
  • But the severity of issues is not (they are far more apparent and easily + quickly solved in comparison to those which new systems cause)
  • With the cycle of development focusing on performance and bugs after new systems & content was the focus, content developers/designers have time to work on that huge last update and programmers can start helping on that too if the need arises.

I for one will remain hopeful that Klei will provide us with a similarly impactful last update but personally I won't mind them taking their time if they add more and more content for now.

Not much, but the essentials. No metals available? Doomed. To hot for any food and no dirt? Doomed... Such little things have be considered at world gen.

Well, incidentally, they started with re+adding world traits just now (and 3 new dupe traits while at it), which I am glad for but am wary of since I expected world generation to be saved for last in the development cycle. Personally I sincerely wish for all 9 past worlds to be added... and of course more but I trust Klei with that especially since they just added 3 new world traits, of which I find two quite interesting and one sweet for all heavy metal fans. (fingers crossed for more~)

Various worlds is probably going to be one of if not the  last step in the whole DLC production process. The reason for this is that getting all the various systems and thingamabobs that are in the DLC working is a higher priority and these can all have impact on the end result of how worlds are generated or should be generated. ( like having the right materials available at the right stages of the game )

In the original game, this is also how it was done. Also getting things like new new POI's properly working with worldgen and other such matters would have to be redone over and over for all the various worlds if those had already been included. getting them right and then adding the various worlds makes more sense. They're already moving towards this with the worldgen traits and fractured starts.
