Griefer attack.

In any unmoderated public server, it is inevitable to get griefers.
Now how you deal with them in such scenario actually becomes part of the game. The fact that most people don't like this or don't know how to deal with it doesn't make it less of a reality. And if you ignore the problem, or pretend they don't exist, your base will burn sooner or later.

There are many ways to deceive griefers, outright lure them to their death, or just hide in places of the world they will never reach. Option B is to have a team that is majority, and kick/rollback every time they attack.

I'm just in disbelief that griefers are such a problem that you consider them a "part of the game", like they are content. Yeah, right. This is a very destructive way of thinking. It shouldn't be this way, it doesn't have to be, mechanics define what a player can and can't do, so it's all the more reason to nullify the most common and simple griefing methods at the very least.

Sadly due to Klei's resources as compared to other games by larger companies with more resources for banning griefers, we have to find other ways to deal with them or even suggest changes to the existing methods (such as player voting system). As for now, there is spawn protection and vote kick/rollback system for players to use, though they aren't 100% guaranteed griefer-proof and there are loopholes.

Though timely reminder for players who don't want to deal with serial griefing for now, it's recommended to join moderated dedicated server groups like Don't Starve Together (DST) group and Diverse Survivors group, since Klei official servers are unmoderated and these serial griefers hang out there more frequently after ending up on these groups' banlist.

Very much agree, though making sure one of the most common griefing methods, which is setting the whole base on fire, wouldn't be that hard to give some decent level of mitigation, which is just making sure players don't have the "light" option. This would not mean they would no longer be inflammable structures overall and couldn't be burnt by other means, like in-game events, simply that it would not be so easy as holding a torch by any new player and clicking right-mouse button while hovering cursor over some flammable structures.

Some have exclaimed mechanics like this could ruin some builds because you need flammable structures in some "over" type builds for example. Even though I don't like these exploitative farms inherently as solutions to things in the game (which is a topic of its own to be fair), I'm pretty sure you could still work around that in many cases. You could use inflammable versions for some things, like stone walls, which wouldn't be affected by any more complex anti-fire-griefing specifications. If you absolutely wanted to use flammable wood walls or fences because you're picky like that and for no other reason than that then that's kind of on you, but there are points to be made in regard to these structures then being functionally useless, which is a bummer.

Either way, I long for the day we can have inflammable versions of structures like gates, minisigns, signs, fences, maybe even pots. We have one for chests, so why not these structures? Minisigns are a chore to mark, and if all your chests are scaled chests already, marking them with minisigns means you may end up wasting time to remark them if they burn and it's really annoying. What's the point of scaled chests if your markers of them need to be covered by an a flingo anyway? Feather pencil also only has 1 durability, so many feathers and other resources needed just to mark your chests, it just artificially inflates the gameplay time...

Usually these kind of “post and shame “ are frown upon the forums as Klei can’t (and probably shouldn’t honestly) enforce acting a police of their game. Griefers on public servers are part of the game. We used to make the main base hidden somewhere hard to reach usually in the caves, while leaving a simple fake base for newcomers at oasis, which got vandalized and burned consistently every 30-40 days.

Now that said, these people mentioned by the OP also say innapropiate things and have a profile that goes against steam community guidelines, so they can be reported to steam for THAT. But not for burning your base at DST. He or she would need reporting even if they weren’t a DST griefer.

hiding base would not be very helpful as they use mods to tell them where other players are. they will simply go to the base with most people and it wouldn't be very difficult for them. I think klei should create a rewind back set amount of time instead of rewinding back to dawn feature, granted i know that would be challenging. but yeah, just wanted everyone to know they use mods to find you

Ah, the good ol' times when a poor-but-honest neophyte gets griefed on some official pub, then comes to KLei forums with a report thinking KLei would do something about it. The smell of innocence in the air.. and the crass stink of disillusionment afterwards. Good discovery times. Makes me remember why I came to these very forums back in 2017 when trios of trolls were mass resetting servers day 1. MmmmMMMM!

Go for community dedicated servers, OP. The kind that's moderated by admins and have active-and-shared ban lists for such offenses. KLei pubs are no-man's-land where shenanigans and irl insanity run rampant; you go there only for punctual speed runs (bosses, farming, Moon, Ruins, etc), to make fleeting bases in secluded places (Ruins, Lunar Isles, Pearl Island, at Sea), or laugh at the madness in chat. That's it.

Sorry this happened to you.  Like said above go to a dedicated server like the DST group.  You can join the discord and report griefers.
