why am i keep losing my precious chlorine?

Recommended Posts

there is only slimes in the boxes, no one can get in/out without using the liquid-airlock. doors are locked and the gas pump pumps out the oxygen that slimes emit. + there are bleach stones that emit chlorine but i have lost tons of chlorine. idk why. the chlorine amount was like in the room above.

It's probably being deleted by the offgassing. Pressurize the room to >=1.8kg / tile. Then the slime (and the bleach stone) will stop gassing off.

That is until a dupe exhales and a CO2 pocket flies by the storage bin. To be safe from that you can use atmo suits. Or drop the slime with a conveyor loader from another room.

You don't really need an extra room for slime storage by the way. It can easily combined with room containing the liquid tanks.

Yes. I have lost a whole chlorine room with 1.5kg pressure, just because one piece of meat was rotting in it. And that piece of meat teleported in after a critter died outside, on the roof of that room. I would recommend to put at least 2kg pressure in there to be sure.

I think dupes should not exhale CO2 where they cannot breath, but I am not sure whether this works reliably. With oxygen masks, they definitely drop CO2 packets. With exo-suits they do not.

idk what offgassing means tho. like, it just gets deleted cuz slimes produce polluted oxygen? and now i have a new room thats full of chlorine and its so heavy that the slimes can not produce anything. should i still take precautions?

Offgassing = certain solids producing gasses. Like slime produces polluted oxygen. And bleach stone produces chlorine. This stops at a gas pressure greater than 1.8 kg per tile. So you can't just put in a little chlorine. You have to make sure the room is full of it. Putting in the chlorine with a gas vent or a canister emptier is the most reliable way to get a high gas pressure

I think the mechanism is as follows: Below 1.8kg of pressure, PO2 will be produced and just needs to go somewhere. This is necessary because otherwise slime and rot-piles could only off-gas in vacuum. Or you would need to have that replaced gas go somewhere which probably would have all sorts of unpleasant side-effects and would be difficult to get right. So the easiest and safest thing is to erase the gas in the current cell and put the PO2 there.

I may be wrong but I think a few versions back they made changes. I had a setup like yours, removing germs from water with tanks in a chlorine room... pretty sure chlorine is now lost killing the germs in those water tanks.

Not in the DLC at least. Just disinfected 5t of max infected water in 24g/tile of Chlorine. No Chlorine lost.

I've been using this contraption in at least two different bases in dlc:image.thumb.png.755a6c62a9c87a8aa34ba47d284fda33.png
It has 250g chlorine per tile and that stays constant over 10's of cycles at least.
(It's a bit overdone since it's manually operated at first and then there is a spot for germ sensor to make it fully automated. And also the fact that germs don't die inside pipes which only way I found for is to simply loop the water.)
