How do you use the automation ports in the rocket platform properly?

Recommended Posts

Gantries take 1-2 seconds to retract. So you need to delay the launch while that happens

In Spaced Out you don't really need gantries though. Just ladders will do. Not sure what Klei intends for that in the future

The ladders are not as useful anymore as soon as you use a large petropeum engine. Dupes cannot access modules properly to place  oxidizer and such

Can I get more details on the rocket platform automation ports and how to use them?

but they all get destroyed.

I think there is a bug currently that destroys a gantry even if it is retracted and far away from the rocket/rocket platform when the rocket returns. I'm not sure if automation could solve that...

In the base game you just put a filter gate between the two rocket ports to delay the launch and give the gantry time to retract. And I think a buffer + NOT between the checklist signal and the gantry so that it doesn't extend already during the rocket launch.

I just tried to recreate this in sandbox with a sugar rocket, but kind of failed. The rocket exhaust is hot enough to melt even thermium wires when they touch the platform :o

Right. Shows how long it's been since I messed around with that :o

Somehow the whole automation part doesn't seem to fully though out in the DLC. For example the platform puts out a green signal even when you haven't set a launch destination yet. So as far as I can tell there is no way to distinguish a rocket that's just sitting on the pad from one that you really intend to launch. In the first case you usually want to extend the gantry to let the crew out.
