No. If you're riding the beefalo it gains domestication, and if you're off the beefalo it kind of stagnates domestication. It technically goes down but it isn't really that noticeable unless you get off of it for a really long time. 1 hour ago, Pastah said: Also, you can't use tools on the beefalo so you can't dig up twig bushes, etc, while riding the beefalo. Ride the beefalo to wherever you need to dig up saplings, dig up all the saplings, then get back on the beefalo. You're taming it and accelerating the rate at which you complete your task. And you barely spend any time getting saplings, grass tufts, etc. It's maybe a day or two, possibly three or four if you're really aggressive about it. That's not much compared to the 20+ days taming a beefalo takes. You can just get off of it when you need to. 1 hour ago, Pastah said: I tried rushing beefalo on public servers a couple times, but they're a pain. I have to constantly make sure the beefalo is above 40% obedience so my saddle doesn't get ruined since pig skin is hard to come by in public servers. The 40% obedience thing is really the only difficult part of the beefalo taming process, yeah. You either need to bulk amass a bunch of twigs before you start taming it or keep picking up twigs as you ride it. But you said you like to early game get saplings transplanted, so that should make it pretty easy. Just come back to the base every once in awhile and harvest all the twigs. Should only take you a few stacks of twigs over the 20+ days to fully domesticate it without it shaking its saddle off. Plus, you're allowed four "free" shakes and if you notice it's shaking the saddle you can try to mount it to interrupt the shake animation with a rearing animation, then you can feed it and it doesn't shake the saddle off. SinancoTheBest
While often not as fast as rushing the regular saddle, Glossomer's Rush is still a fun and viable option where you can dedicate about 4 daytimes to acquire 68 butterfly wings. You'll start with a superior saddle with more durability and a faster travel speed overall.

Currently playing as Wes I highly HIGHLY Recommend getting the regular saddle first and then using the saddled Beefalo your on to chase down and gather the butterfly wings for the other saddle. The Movement speed of the beef helps make gathering them a breeze, and as a bonus- should any unfortunate things happen (like hound waves) your already on a mount capable of dealing with that. If you're solo I'd say the potential risk of the beefalo not being domesticated before deerclops / winter greatly outweighs the potential reward of moving 10.7% faster (although you can still do it if you want), but butterfly spawns actually stack with playercount so if you're multiplayer it can be possible to get 68 butterfly wings in a shockingly short amount of time. If you're on a public server it's as simple as finding wherever people are basing and planting a flower there if there isn't one already there. Since it's a public server you're guaranteed to have several people loitering at the base 24/7 for some quick butterfly spawns.
