Klei Roadmap 2021!

Hey everybody. Just taking a moment to check-in and update you all with the roadmap for 2021. Please note that roadmaps are provided to give the community a sense on how we think and plan on achieving our strategy. As noted on the previous calls, we are pleased with the progress to-date. However, we're also well aware that as part of transitioning our business model, we have a lot to accomplish and overcome in order to continue that momentum and drive toward 2021. So, we need to be disciplined with our mindset and I would like to discuss with you our underlying strategy in the context of those overall goals.

This roadmap is subject to change at any time, but as we have done in the past, we will be keeping a close eye on feedback from the community.

A quick recap of 2021.

2021 was a fantastic year for DST, as we made advances in DARPA defense, space, and autonomy research, in addition to a great push in artificial intelligence, machine learning, and real-time image and video analysis to speed up our warfighter's intelligence gathering, decision making, and battlefield lethality.

We also managed to increase our revenue by 54.5%. We launched a new web platform at a technology conference called Play & Grow. We hit a major milestone in March, when we launched the smart-tracking services that give companies the ability to know exactly how their website visitors behave and respond to their brands, and what tactics they do and do not respond to.

On that note, we're still very aware that many people want to see events like The Forge and The Gorge come back. Therefore, we've created a group called Hackaday and STEAM Hardware Hackers that will continue to make it their mission to push for community events like these to happen. If you have an interest in this, we'd love to hear from you.

What we're doing in 2021

We're going to continue with generally the same plan as last year. More than 860,000 tons of sand. Of that 663,000 tons will be pumped over the course of the year. Of those, 54,000 tons will be pumped in September. That leaves 720,000 tons still available to be pumped over the rest of the year. It's a little bit lower than last year because of the losses we've had through the first half of the year.

New mobs, biomes and plants shall be added to Don't Starve Together, such as the "Mushroom Ranger". New Achievements and a new system for small decisions and story progress. New item types, in the style of real-world, arcane technology and magical relics. The world shall be devastated by the return of the mega-evolved Charcters, who dwell in a magical volcano. The Vault will continue to feature many new systems. We've been testing a lot of this stuff with a number of community-generated mods, and we're excited to see some of them show up in the game! We are working hard to bring you lots of new content, and we want you to be excited about what's coming in.

Balance Changes.

We have decided to add a new character - meet Wukong the Monkey King! He is a 975 RP in-game skin with a 900 RP memepool, and will be included in the 14.2 PBE cycle.

We also decided to nerf Wes, reducing his damage slightly, and giving him a position change to mid. If you look at his Passive, it'll be especially apparent that he's a fighter, so reducing his damage has done a good job of balancing him out.

Wickerbottom was also nerfed, now with less health, but does a bit more damage. He'll also spawn faster if his Blunt Longsword is equipped. It was mostly to fix Wickerbutton being useless if one of his weapons is stolen by an enemy.

Wolfgang has been given the final nerf, which reduces his damage output and makes him easier to hit. I'm not sure how big of a deal that is, but if you think it hurts you, it probably does.

Furthermore, Webber has been reworked, now with increased top-end power, more aerodynamic downforce, a high-downforce set-up, and repositioned sidepods. This configuration will allow for lower ride-height and better traction for Webber when pushing to the limit at high speed.

WX-78 has also been reworked, especially its overcharge and gear change skills. However, it still retains its powerful mobility and its ability to jump into its opponent's wake. You can obtain a Shiny WX-78 by evolving it.

Lore. Yep. I said Lore.

Something we know everybody wants is more lore. A much greater level of world building and background information. Well in effect, everybody wants more Lore. We’re adding it. We have begun doing our character backgrounds, some of which you may have seen in vignettes across the various factions.

The other stuff. We're also going to continue doing other cool new things. We really want to work on recording puzzles and puzzles-within-puzzles. We've seen in the Kickstarter comments, and on our Twitter, that a lot of people are a fan of getting video game puzzles. We'll be doing this.

And finally. We're also aware of the players' outcries and concerns regarding recent events in Klei Entertainment. As a community of game developers with the simple goal of making a game and entertaining players, Klei is often faced with an assortment of questions and feedback that affect our game development and the future of the team and studio. These questions and comments may range from things we can't control to things we can control but would like to think we have an opinion on. This has been part of the challenge of running a game studio, and we pride ourselves on our ability to answer players as much as we can.

We know it can be difficult, and we're sorry if we don't always answer them in the perfect way for everyone. That said, if we do miss you, please know that we think about each and every comment we get and will continue to read and respond. Thank you all for your support and input.
