Honestly it's called Don't Starve Together for a reason. This game has one of the best social aspects by a mile. Throw random people into an island and keep throwing challenges and adventures for them? Formula for great fun time.

I'm both with playstyles, but I'm mainly solo for exceedingly long term worlds.

Both have their own ups and downs. For one, I always like playing alone for the merit of it. It is unique to take on challenging bosses with only yourself and your skill, and build something neat out of it. Considering literally everything except the lazy deserter teleporting is possible to use in solo, I do find this very viable. Plus, solo is usually where I go if I want to test a mechanic ingame since I can debug all of the values I would need for it without other players causing issues as well.

Multiplayer is a bit different for me. You can do long term worlds, but the problem is there's a good chance people might be burned out and not continue to play anymore, which is fair enough. It's the reason I limit myself to short-medium term worlds for most of my multiplayer experiences. That's not saying it isn't fun though, because I have had way more enjoyable experiences playing with friends then I have without :P

Overall, I think the game is suitable with what you wish to do. If you want to do a super long term world by yourself or just have some fun with friends, the options to do so won't disappoint you.

People are just jerks, that’s really all I can say, if there is a way to spoil someone elses fun then they’re gonna do it just because that’s what gets their kicks on. Its stupid, I’ve never understood why people do it.. and I wish the game had more ways of preventing it besides having to roll the world back and make everyone lose progress on whatever they were doing.

And because I have no desire to spend most my time rolling back when players break/burn things.. I simply opt to play Alone or with someone who if they burn my stuff I know where they live and can drive to their house and give them a swift kick in places shoes shouldn’t go. :)

Thankfully when the RWYS update leaves beta branch, everyone will have access to the Watering Can, meaning early game fire prevention with the ability to extinguish fires. Sure, it won't help against hammers, but at least you'll be able to stall their efforts long enough to kick them.

I can already picture scenarios where someone tries to burn base, but they're constantly stopped, forcing them to either leave, get kicked, or waste time getting the materials for a hammer. By that time you can notify everyone else and they'll be promptly booted. :D

I prefer solo on pub worlds, than my own personal game. It feels more like an MMO that way, I found a public wilderness server called old school wilderness that fit my needs perfectly and idk, not having to depend on others being alive (no ghosts) makes the gameplay more responsibile.
