ZombieDupe
Just why? I want dupes to breathe but also not vent oxygen to space while using the telescope. And no, I'm not using oxygen masks until their mechanics change, they eat up ore and pull vacuums, which isn't fun.
misotoma
At one point I didn't know why either but in the tooltip for the telescope it mentions it has to be built in the vacuum of space.. in other word in the space biome.. in other words all the way up past all the natural drywall areas where the background is stars. You can enclose it in normal tiles (no glass needed) and put drywall and pressurize it with oxygen.
tkthebadomen
Try this setup. It seems to work below and above the background wall line.
Gurgel
The trick is suppsed to be to have tiles exposed to space and then drywall them. No glass needed apparently. But glass seems to work below the space line. Interesting.
misotoma
So I’m currently playing a new seed and .. I can’t find the telescope building? Where is it? Does anyone have a similar problem not finding it?

If you want the "Well ACKSHUALLY" answer: silica glass is opaque to the infrared wavelengths of light that are vital for modern telescopy. If ONI asteroids have a low albedo, being able to see the visible wavelengths through glass ain't gonna help anyone to see anything important. But, gameplay > realism and all that, so I advance this as trivia rather than a defence of the setup as-is.

MinhPham
I should be the same as the old telescope, or space scanner ... won't work on glass tile but DOES work on airflow / mesh ... and i don't even think they bother to fix.
