wormwood is the farm character who gains no real benefit from farming

Yeah, but the process to get one is such a massive pain, tho I suppose with Dragonfruits becoming a bit easier to grow, this could be negated. I've never found Beefalo taming to be much use, especially since they can just detame themselves.

The process to get one is a little time consuming, but if you ride them whenever you can make use of them (while still feral) and keep them fed when you're not using them the process isn't too much of a hassle. And with salt licks and semi-regular use, a Beefalo can last you forever, so it's an investment with massive returns in the long run.

Hmmmm... Next time I really sit down and play, I'll give that a shot. Is the aggressive Beef the best choice? Or speedy?

He used to be able to grow a lot of vegetables with nearly no effort, so he had at least a part of taming covered. Also dragonfruits are a potent healing for beefalo.
With the current status of wild crops, this benefit of his has been watered down, but it still remains the benefit of having something else to take hits instead of him.

I find the ornery (aggressive) beefalo to be the best one. With a war saddle, its damage can almost match that of a dark sword. I use it on the non-raid bosses, spider queens, treeguards, and hound waves (though a little outside help is needed on these). As Wendy, I take this Beefalo on every fight, as long as I have a friend helping out with the raid bosses.

We probably shouldn't derail the topic, so...

I think with the new system, Wormwood isn't in the mercy of random crops nearly as much as before, so he could focus on farming the crops that give the most hunger (Pumpkins for half the year, Dragonfruit for the other half), which can work really well if done correctly. I've been a Wormwood main since he was added to DST, and I haven't had any issues at all with this new beta.

Same. Really, its just learning good combos with farming.

How does Wormwood benefit from taming exactly?

All the excess hunger and health from crops take care of the beefalo's needs and the beefalo protects Wormwood's precious HP.

Keeping a beefalo fed with dragon pies 24/7 is only one way of taming one. A very unnecessarily resource intensive one at that. Its also always what ppl who might actually not know what theyre talking about (not saying thats you) bring up to dunk on how awful domestication is.

You can fully domesticate a beefalo with only enough twigs and grass to maintain obedience so you can ride it.

I start taming as soon as i have materials for saddle/alch and have found a herd, and i finish around the time that deerclops spawns. In the process i never need to make weapons or armor or healing supplies and i explore the map faster. An ornery beef also allows you to ignore hound defense until well after day 100

Maybe wormwood should get sanity from tending to crops the right way, as he would be happy because he helps his friends.

His compost wrap got a buff already, but I still think it could be better.

Also, tending to himself (he is a plant after all), should allow him to get into bloom stage out of spring. he could have a nutrient meter that when perfectly balanced would trigger his bloom stage.

thematically this sounds cute and fitting but i think gameplay-wise it would be redundant no? consider he already gets a whopping +10 sanity from planting seeds and other stuff. Ive never had sanity problems as Wormwood.

Idk about this yet havent played extensively with the new wrap. But it would be nice if it got increased by 5 more so it healed for 50 total.

  • This would mean he only needs 3 compost wraps to heal completely instead of 7,5 (8) healing salves or 5 poultices. If u compare it like that i think the wrap could become a lot more valuable.
    • 15 poop, 6 rot, 3 nitre =
      • 16 ash, 8 rocks, 8 spider glands (for healing salves)
      • or 20 reeds and 10 honey (for honey poultice)

+1. i really really hope Klei can make this happen somehow. This has been a suggested change since Wormwood's release, its such a shame the beautiful blooming sprite can only be seen for like 5 days out of the year. Its not like Blooming is that good anyway to warrant being so limited. at its peak its only 120% movement speed at the cost of 200% hunger drain

I would like Wormwood to be able to bloom with “gifts” his plant friends give to him for extraordinary treatment, like if he makes a plant happy it’ll bestow Wormwood with a buff or something..
