Duplicant food consumption management

Recommended Posts

So recently I started new game with hunger set to highest (2000kcal/cycle). What is bothering me is that i keep getting starvation alerts and lot of time is being wasted because dupes only eat one meal to get out of starvation but get back being hungry really fast.

Once dupe gets bellow 1000kcal they drop whatever they were doing and go back to base to eat 1 meal lice which is 600kcal and ofc get starving again. A lot of time is being wasted that way. Is there any way I can instruct dupes to eat until they are full so they don't spend 50% of game time running back to eat only to get starving again in no time?

How about: make more calorie dense foods.

I haven't tested, are you sure they will not eat until full (on a normal down time meal) as long as you have an abundance of food items?

I have enough food stockpiled .I am playing Oasis so meal lice is only reliable food source. I have isolated my starting biome to protect it from heat but growing any other kind of food is difficult. Water and terrain is to hot for bristle, there is no cold biome for sleet wheat. I was thinking of going for mushrooms but I am afraid of slimelung since I also set disease to highest. Ranching maybe an option but its to time intensive considering how much food i need.

I did not try that before, how about increase the downtime? or insert a breakfast time after sleep?

I will try doing that. There is problem with this as well. My game is so slow since I need 10 mealwood per dupe they spend so much time on it that I really don't want to cut productive time even more.

you could specify one dup for supply which deliver all foods to refrigerators, and luckily enough they will get from it. they will pick from the nearest food source so it wont work all the time.

This might be the source of my problem. I have no dedicated food storage.I built my farm in CO2 pit so that when meal lice is harvested it drops in sterile atmosphere. I had hoped this will save me delivery time to dedicated food box , but it looks like I have just replaced one problem with another.

The problem is the maximum caloric energy reserve a dupe can have is perhaps one of the single most unrealistic things about ONI. A human can generally go two days before depleting both muscle and liver glycogen stores and can burn fat indefinitely as long as they have sufficient stores of it.

I think the dupe calorie max should be closer to 5-6000 to represent glycogen stores alone.

Usually I have 3 hours for downtime at evening, may be you can put it with 2 hours at Evening, and then 1 hours at the morning after shower.

I am not sure if the game had set the eating priority over recreation, if they choose to play in the morning, then I think it may need to move the eating time to about lunch, so that the Calore level is lower at the time, the dupes should choose to eat over relaxe.

It sounds much more challenging for this staving setting!! I want to try it myself, too.

As it turned out this really was the problem. Dupes would pick from nearest food source which was often single serving of meal lice. Once I built food storage and put all the food into it dupes were taking more food at once and starvation issue was gone.

Yeah I was playing on normal for long time. Once this new content was released I thought to go hardmode and play Oasis with all the settings turned to highest. Its definitely more challenging and early game in particular is intense. I had to rethink some of my earlier strategies and come up with new solutions.
