Space scanner layout

Recommended Posts

When positioning space scanners, we need 7 or something to get 100% coverage, normally these are placed horizontally across the map, is it feasible to create and empty column and place the scanners vertically instead, so that they have a horizontal footprint of 28 tiles (13*2 + 2) but a vertical footprint of 92-ish?

You need 6 scanners and it is possible to place vertically to get 100% network quality. But since meteors can hit at an angle then such build will be problematic to protect from them. Still the lowest scanner will have to have its detection area not obstructed so you will not be able so save much on horizontal space at the top of the whole build. The detection area has a shape of a triangle so it can be narrow at the bottom but will be much wider at the top if total height of your build is 90 tiles. If I'm not wrong you will need it to have 180 tiles of not obstrucded space there.

At first I thought meteors striking at an angle can be a problem but since you can build bunker tiles wall on each side then will just need to put 8 bunker doors on top and meteors will not be a problem.

However I don't see such a build as practical, because for me main point to use space scanners is to make protection for solar panels. So if you want to make a large array of them, like I do, then you still need a lots of bunker doors.

I didn't read everything in details, is the idea to make a long vertical column of scanners (instead of horizontal line) ?

If yes I like that, please post a screenshot if it works :)

Also doing the same with rockets is probably... well, an interesting idea as well.

It would be interesting to see what happens with multiple rockets taking off from the same launch tube.  Do you not need a base below the thruster, such as a bunker door?

Why is thruster not recognised by the autospell?  Strange, it's much of an obscure word either.

You need a base to build the engine, but I was able to remove it after and the game hasn't complained.

If you want to go lighter on the "exploits", I guess you could build them on mech doors and then open those when a rocket underneath wants to take off.

I haven't tried launching them yet; I need to finish the silo, add cooling, etc. Also need to finish the fuel factory (trying to cram in infinite storage for lox/lh2 and keeping my fingers crossed that I don't screw it up twice in a row, khm. And then I'll need to make enough fuel to get all three to 100k+; my planets are absolute garbage on this map.

But I would expect that they will launch and land just fine.
