hamstar
Has anyone attempted an unending survival of the aporkalypse? My basic impression is that it becomes pretty hectic after a while, seeing as how there's no safety to be found on the surface, everything is trying to kill you, bats swarm beyond reasonable fighting limits, and Heralds chase you from your base or outright destroy it when you most need it. Without glitch-like cheese strats (or lots of Wigfried abuse), there can't be any reasonable way to survive this, right? Note that this mode is more than just mere survival: You have to thrive. As such: A permanent, unmoving surface base is needed, and with all the amenities (major stations). You must be able to stay with your base. Nothing should be able to chase you off that doesn't promptly end up dead or gone. Health, sanity, and agency must be maintained. You should have an effective means of keeping things together at least most of the time. Bouncing from one panic moment to the next constantly does not qualify. No cheese/game breaking strats. If you have to ask, it probably is. Anyway, there is at least one way to achieve this, though it does tip toe upon the last rule, but I don't think it breaks it, given the design of the game. I'll post later about it, if you want to try this without first getting ideas in advance. Hyxaru
It’s quite an uninteresting challenge due to the ancient herald spawning unrestricted. “They” keep spawning even if more ancient herald already exist. And if you ask me I’d guess the ancient herald would be a single entity, not multiple. You either have to kill him every time, or let him de-aggro which to be honest is cheesing. Bats spawn at 8 minute intervals (a day), but with some defences like a great amount of snaptooths, you can deal with it. Alternatively you can use walls against bats to help. I do like the thought of the aporkalypse. There are some unique and usefull game mechanics that work during the night and full moon. There is a relatively straightforward way to deal with the Heralds. They do de-aggro, though, but I wouldn't risk letting them hang around your base. sinisterrkid
My safe bunker strategy is: * I make a perimeter of withered cacti. I prefer them withered because while not doing damage, they are indestructible and makes your base impenetrable. I recommend using gunpowder to harvest each and all cactus in the volcano. If all cacti is not enough I think that by resetting the RoG world you also get a new Volcano generation in SW. Don't know why or if it happens with everyone. * I line the interior of the base with Houndius Shootius (placing them within the cacti walls. 3 per wall, 12 total might be enough). To get all the Guardian's Horns for that you have to keep raiding the Ruins in RoG and then reseting the world through the Teleportato to raid 3 new ruins. Remember to prefab a Skyworthy before activating the Teleportato so you can imediately build it in the new world and go back to your main base in either Hamlet or SW and prepare for the next ruins rush. As for the Deerclops Eyeball also necessary for this, I build a bunch of Oddities Emporiums and buy them. * For food I go with 2 Bunny Hutches and that's enough to have food available forever. 3 if you're Wolfgang. As Wickerbottom I read On Tentacles between the hutches to let the Tentacles do the work for me each day. If you're not Wickerbottom you can give the bunnies carrots and make them fight each other. Put a fence between the Bunny hutches and the rest of your base so they can't reach you when you're cooking those nice meaty stews. That's pretty much it, I think. If you need resources like wood and grass you can have a little Agriculture patch in your bunker. I don't think you'd need much of it anyway. That's what I was doing for an RoG bunker, but I got bored of farming the Ancient Guardian's Horns and didn't complete the project. Never tried it in the Aporkalypse, but am excited to try it when I feel like doing it. I'd have to see about the placement of the Houndius Shootius. Might not be a good idea to have them too close to the wall since the Herald's AoE attack has a big range. Hyxaru
You can just use the decorations under the City Planning tab to make un-attackable walls. They can be placed close enough together that their hitboxes meet. hamstar
Just note that indestructible walls count as "cheese". That said, I'm pretty sure the Herald would make short work of cacti barriers, if they wanted. Needs verification.
