Why eggs still count as critters?

Recommended Posts

THB... My automation for hatch farm would collapse if critter sensor didn't count the eggs. As of right now, only dupe labor my hatch farm needs is grooming the 4 "mother" hatches in 2 separate pens, rest is shipped to incubators by sweepers and from incubators to the "aging and starvation" room where hatches die and sweepers do everything except groom.

I have my critter sensor set to 2, which means as soon as there are more then 2 "critter entities" a door opens and sweeper can pick up the new egg and ship it off to the incubators. When one of the "mother" hatches dies, younger one will be young enough to lay atleast 2 more eggs before dying starting the cycle all over again. Making the sensors separate eg. Critter and egg sensor messes my whole thing up.

I'm sure there are some system that benefit from only critter or egg sensors, but i love the way they are right now. Would provide a picture of my farm, but since i'm at work, i'm unable to play.

But eggs are critters. They just didn`t hatch yet.

Perhaps the point is that neither sensor nor critters should count eggs as critters.

If critters didn`t count eggs they would overcrowd all the time. A shinebug lays so many eggs you`d  be swimming in them. Speaking of swimming it`s even worse with pacus. 8 water tiles and 10 eggs inside.

Did you mean 1 water tile and 80 eggs inside? :)  Pacus are quite insane, as you can put as many glum (not cramped) pacus into a single tile of water, provided you don't enclose the room to get them cramped. I wonder if Klei will address this at some point.  With the new +2 for eating raw fish, I'm probably gravitating towards pacu farming.
