Gurgel
I let the game run overnight and now I have 4 dead dupes, 3 that were "slain" and one that just says "dead:death", one apparently died on the toilet and 3 next to the printer. The only thing I can see that could cause this is the pokeshells roaming around. Does anybody have a similar observation? SakuraKoi
Well... crab. Seriously thou', Something must have triggered them then. If your Colony was Lost then you should be easily able to trace it back since the message pauses the game. With some luck if not you could still find an older autosave with at least one of the four alive. Greybear
Pokeshells get aggressive after laying an egg - they're protecting their babies. Between this and the pips raiding storage compactors and burying seeds, I'm loving the new critter behaviors. Greybear
Yeah, I love the way they implemented these new critters - the pokeshells periodic aggression is far more interesting than an outright hostile creature. I really hope they add a couple of small behaviors to some of the older critters, giving them new life. They could at the very least make hatches aggressive when they're dug out of their burrows, the way they used to be. I don't know if that features really added anything to the game, despite more micromanagement when digging... I always found it very tedious, and just ignored it. I don't see how that makes the mechanic engaging but to each their own. I like how heat causes damage, forcing me to think before entering a new biome. But random attacks when digging out the starting biome, I just find tedious. I think the developers realized the same thing, and the mechanic prompted new players to kill off their hatches since the first thing they would encounter was an aggressive one. Transfer arms, automated doors etc seems to be the way to go. You could also make a pit where the dupes are on ladders and that way can pick up what they need without coming in direct contact. It's not a matter of just killing all critters. It's a case of a new critter, which requires new strategies. Klei did a good job at adding plants and critters, which doesn't feel like reskins of existing content. Of old make new for few will remember but I still do, fondly so. I remember the hatchicide before the ranching upgrade(s)~ Sleep? Nah, the buggers are out now, Combat Priority 9 everyone! Code Reeeeeeeeeeeeeeed! Now if you'll excuse me, I have to flee from a mob of barely clothed people that just so happen to have the same gender, and profession. I have done that multiple times.... not by killing, but by placing tiles on top of sleeping hatches. It saves my stuff from being eaten before I get a rancher, who can then move them to a location where I control what they get to eat, like not my food.
