Ranching is currently in a weird spot. Certain critters can be only wrangled automatically but yet full automation of a ranch is a struggle. Trapping flyers is awkward and lures aren`t really useful unless we want to use shinebugs for solar power. It seems all over the place. I`m pretty sure it`s being worked on but still i have a few suggestions.

Lets start with flyers. If they can be wrangled allow us to manually wrangle them as long as a dupe can reach one. Maybe require seasoned rancher training.

Lures. A feeder can already work as a semi lure but maybe make the lure work similar to a dropoff where we can set a type of critter and the amount and extras would get auto wrangled. Additionally the lure needs to have options for different puft types, different shinbug types and gassy moos.

Traps. Those are useless since we can do it all manually. Make them reusable. A sprung trap will be set again once the critter is removed. This would help get critters from places with low oxygen and could work as a "set and forget" shove vole trap. Maybe also add a single use trap from lower tier materials like reed fiber (make it look like the rabbit trap from DS). A trap for flyers that can hold a bait would be cool as well.

Food production. A meat maker (or a butcher station) that gets rid of elderly critters was suggested before. I`d like to add that maybe it should have an age slider allowing to remove critters automatically and at some point it would be just set to remove tame critters after they layed a single egg to maintain population. It would be more efficient than waiting for critters to die out of old age. Should be less violent than drowning the poor things.

Fish. Where do i start. Allow us to pick up flopping fish (or at least "wrangle" them into a bag). There needs to be a better way of catching fish. The trap should be reusable (make it require 1kg of algae or something to set). Lore says pacu only look dumb but they can recognize faces. Maybe make a catch station allowing to catch tamed fish for the meat maker (again both population control and grabbing only the elderly ones based on what`s needed).

We could use more warnings for critters like too high/too low temperature so they don`t randomly die if we aren`t watching that. They should also prefer places in their comfort zone unless hungry. Starving critters could also have an icon rather than a notification in the top right.

I think traps could be useful if nuisance critters (non-tameable) were added to the game.  I suppose you could argue that morbs fill this role already, but give us an incentive to keep them alive (a useful byproduct) as well as a reason to relocate or eradicate them (damage to infrastructure, aggressive towards dupes, germ host, etc) and make traps the only means of relocation.

They wuld definetly be useful for such critters. But when considering the current ones it can still be useful if it didn`t disappear after use. This way you could easily trap far away critters without dupe interaction (only picking them up which doesn`t require ranching skill). It would also help for morb farms. It would allow you to automate the process. Just set the trap and dupes will relocate each spawned morb. No need for complicated door systems.
