Rocketlauncher22
so, as someone who wants to create good artwork (or at the very least, drawings), i want to learn more about the basics and ask for a few tips about drawing on the forums. right now, my drawings are kinda bad. here's an image of what i'd consider my "best" drawing so far. Personally i wouldn't mind tips on how to get a good, basic "style" going between drawings. i'm also struggling with making characters look in certain directions without messing up the drawing. I'm stuck with using MS Paint due to not wanting to spend money on drawing tools, sadly. a link to any good drawing websites would be appreciated. 3 Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/107028-need-tips-on-drawing-ds-characters/ Share on other sites

Depending on what your goals are, your approach will vary. Many artists recommend learning to draw realistically/naturalistically before you create your own style, but this can take forever and if you just want to draw fanart every now and then as a hobby, it may not be worth your time. I'll post a bunch of links for that kind of drawing anyway, just in case Spoiler https://drawabox.com/ -- Really basic fundamental skills focused around perspective and the illusion of 3D form. Really boring exercises. https://www.proko.com/ --Focused on drawing realistic human forms. I found this youtube channel to be very helpful for learning some basic techniques https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLV2X3tgajVlEAo91iOj8w5YizC_fLULzu This playlist doesn't seem to be in a specific order, so "The Importance of Construction in Drawing" may be the video you want here. 22 hours ago, Rocketlauncher22 said: I'm stuck with using MS Paint due to not wanting to spend money on drawing tools, sadly Autodesk Sketchbook is free https://sketchbook.com/ However, it you're using a mouse, you will still have a lot of difficulty mimicking the workflow seen in the various tutorials online. If you want to pursue pixel art, that's another story. I understand that if your budget is literally zero, this will be annoying to hear, but even cheap materials can take you a long way. Most of my development was working on printer paper with ballpoint pens found lying around the house. If you do not have this things just lying around, a pack of ten black Bic pens is $0.97 at Walmart where I live, and though a ream of 250-500 sheets of copy paper can be more expensive, that much paper will last you a very long time. Hopefully this was helpful. Good luck! I look forward to seeing your progression.
