How do you make shortcut ?

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone,

More i play, more the time my duplicant need to reach point B from point A grow a lot, and at end this is very boring. So how do you guys manage it ? I Don't have any plastic yet to make the tube thing, and not sure that can solve the problem by itself.

Its maybe time like i have said before for a teleport thing machine ? Or Something else i Don't know.

Place tiles on the floor where the dupes are walking because they grant +25% speed. More advanced grants more speed though.

Make your travel one long horizontal walk with no ups or downs and preferably without doors. If doors can't be avoided, make them powered for minimum wait.

If you need to go up/down, build a continuous ladder. If available add a firepole as it adds 75% when going down, but never go up a firepole if it can be avoided.

I think that is what you can do with low tech.

Hello and thanks for the help.

All my room are closed by automated door (but did i have the choice ? If no door i Don't have the room bonus no ?).

I have lot of up and down, i can give a screen later of my base so you can see.

I have already use a firepole that help a lot when dupe go home after work, but the ladder is not very fast, because no plastic yet :(

You need doors to set the room bonus. However you do not need to close the doors. It's fairly standard to fill the core of your base with doors and then set them all to be open at all time. This way dupes movement speed will be the same as if there aren't any doors.

What I meant with powered doors is if you need closed doors to say keep different gasses apart, like you don't want to fill your base with chlorine.

The problem will mostly solve itself because your Dupes will level up athletics over time. Building infrastructure is usually more focused on being efficient on the performance side since multiple pathways greatly increase the late game lag.

Therefore, the best layout is just a central ladder with firepoles and branching off rooms with floor tiles. Avoid "stairs" and closed doors on each level of your base since they slow down your movement. In my opinion Tubes aren't worth the to be built until you start building your stuff in space. The huge power draw will put a heavy strain on your power production so I would consider Tubes more as a luxury than a necessity. It is better you use your plastic for better ladders and plastic tiles.

And of course only play on speed 3 to shorten the waiting time. :D

Yeah that what i have done, but i need to make my base more "ergonomic" (not sure this word exist, en gros rendre ma base plus ergonomique avec une plateforme centrale qui relie les autres plateforme par exemple) i hope your guys understand what i mean, because this is beyond my English skill

Early game just build a central core.  Food, Farms, cots, etc in one or two central ladder ways.

Eventually add fire poles.

Try to use exosuits only where needed, and make sure you floor/pole anywhere a dupe needs to use it to try to recover some of the hit they take to speed.

Also, I typically use a 2/2/2 setup for a shift for dupes to start with.  2 downtime, 2 sleep, 2 bath.  If I start getting starvation problems, which usually happens once I start drilling for oil or heading for the space biome, I'll switch to a 4/2/2 to keep that from happening.  There is no easy fix for this.  You'll have to fix it in small pieces over time and keep up on where you're getting stuck.  The only significant change of speed you'll have will be the addition of firepoles (going down) and then tubes (for going up/sideways).

still i would sacrifice my duplicant to the god of chaos to have a teleport machine

That would be cheating. In order to not make it overpowered, it should have minor risk of picking any random free cell on the discovered map. Have fun once you discover magma and space.

Don't forget about the viewpoint shortcut feature to save time on having to manually hold keys to shift the game view so much.

You first get your current view to wherever you frequently go back and forth to in your base and then use ctrl+"#" to save it, swapping the # for a number 1 through 9. You can then quickly go to said saved location by using shift and whatever number it was saved to. Like if you did ctrl+1, you would do shift+1 to quickly go there.
