Experience of Colonizing the Entire Asteroid

Recommended Posts

I have done extensive research on almost every tip, trick, exploit, you name it. I have designed a strategy to fill the entire asteroid with a surplus of oxygen and you don't need any complicated system or exploit to do it either.  Let's get into this.

Here is my base, seed is 125269384
The only cheats I have done to my map are moving indestructible objects to the left side of the map, digging out some of the neutronium, and turning on superspeed. There was no addition or deletion of materials, liquids, or gasses. I left the chlorine geyser open too long, so that was my goof.

1. You only need 2 things for your dupes to survive, food and oxygen. Research what you need until you have any sort of production of both of these things, then go full steam ahead with all of your research, even the ones you can't fully get yet.

2. create barracks, great hall, and bathrooms. You can have the water cooler or marble stone float in the air to save space, the game still registers it as being in the room. Easy way to do restrooms is to connect a sieve to a reservoir. Once you have these three rooms set up and a schedule for showers and a 5 shift break, you will have enough morale for even a mechatronics engineer. The rec room is optional, but also very easy to set up for an additional 4 morale.

3. Bum rush mushrooms - Dirt is precious, try to get mushrooms going as fast as possible. They are the most efficient source of food early game, however just like dirt, it will not last (for more than 400-500 cycles depending on total slime in your asteroid).

4.Coal generators are enough to power anything you want especially with an automation wire going to a smart battery. The coal generators won't be wasting power now.

5. Some may consider this an exploit, but i find that it is just too convenient not to use. Don't give me credit for this, I think someone else found this b4 me. I call it the "carrier wire" or a transformer replacer. With this system in place, you can carry 20kW on a regular wire. when using 2 batteries, set the signal to 80/20 and the circuit will bounce back and forth so there will always be constant power. If using one battery, set the signal to default or 100/0 for devices that do not need constant power, ie. atmo suit docks. The basics for this automation is that only one battery is connected to the circuit at a time while the other charges itself. Batteries do not count as a consumer and do not count towards the limit of your carrier wire.

6. save all but one of your wild animals, plants are optional too. wild hatches provide free coal/meat because they eat their own fallen brethren and dreckos give you free meat/reed fiber. I usually pen these 2 together and separate them from the domesticated ones. When considering ranching, don't make rooms, leave them open so you can cram as many critters in one spot without the overcrowded debuff.

7. You can compost excess seeds. Balm lilies are free resources when paired with dreckos. The flowers are useless after you have built up a stockpile of vitamins however. Another free resource comes from ranching shinebugs. They are an infestation when it comes to open room ranching, plan accordingly. Shinebugs lay 1 egg before starving in their lifetime and will lay a second one if ranched without food. Be careful when ranching shinebugs as too many will cause sunburns. eggshells can also be composted into dirt.

8. The meat of the strategy, deodorizers. Unlike dirt, Sand is everywhere and plentiful. You will have upwards of 300 or more tons of sand left over after digging out your asteroid and converting all the slime biomes to oxygen. Use water locks and an algae deoxidizer to start with if you don't want your dupes to get sick right away. send them to dig in shifts when one of your dupes immunity gets low. either way, the more you dig, the more oxygen is converted, and the more the clean oxygen will kill the slime lung. Use the free balm lilies and wild hatches to make vitamins and save those when you see your dupes immunity decreasing. Sand can be locked away and regolith can be used instead for late game.

9. slime doesn't last forever either, but if you have polluted water, you have oxygen. Build a reservoir and destroy it to have a 5t bottle of polluted water. The off-gassing from this bottle is greater then what it can generate sitting in a pond somewhere.

their will be an excess of power if you decide to use an open base, but that power cannot be used to generate more atmosphere. The only way to gain a positive income of atmosphere/oxygen is to have geysers, oil reservoir burner + Sour gas condenser, morbs, doubling material/liquids exploits, or cheap space missions. The number of duplicants you can sustain at one time are tied to these factors. Ranching may give an excess of food as well which can be turned to rot for even more oxygen as a method as well. Here are some more useful automatons I have at my disposal:

0 Energy Gas filter: set valve to 1g/s.

If there is a more efficient method for food and oxygen production, please let me know. I plan on restarting and focusing on bottling all of the polluted water so I can access oil this time around. I have too much water :p

Sure and 0% stress with that base, game is broken ^^

What about Slimelung ? What about Temperature changes at the bottom beyond 60º ?

The biomes that i dug up barely changed temperature even when I did move all the ice to the bottom and slimelung is very weak as of this current build which is why deoderizers work so well. if this feels like an exploit, turn up the disease settings. The only difference that will make is that it might take an extra 10 cycles to kill all the slimelung b4 it is safe and that balm lilies are a necessity if you play without atmo suits. As far as not letting heat get to your base, I have not had a problem with it at all. My guess would be all the carbon my dupes expel is what was keeping my farms alive. some have said this is a design flaw and that the deoderizer is op and I agree, but it's in the game and I wanted to show that.

how you use "Gas Stacker"

Some of my automations came from watching brothgar videos if that helps. There is a sensor before the valve that sends a signal to the shutoff valve to activate. it takes exactly this length of pipes to send a full packet . build it and test it for yourself. The gas valve is set to max size.

Also forgot to mention some useful posts from the community.
