Duplicants won't work continuously on Oil Refinery?

Recommended Posts

Hi, thought maybe I can start up a topic on the main Oxygen Not Included forum since this is kind of been a problem everytime I start a new base and get to endgame power consumption of oil. I posted it on steam but maybe people have a better idea on here. Here's a screenshot. Also, I understand the piping layout is not clean. I only just got to this point of making the colony to this point. I never made it past 200 cycles without a major issue that's too late to fix.

I have a system set up that requires at least 2 dupes to power an oil refinery but for some reason the Dupes will only use the machine for less than a second and move on to a different task. The liquid pipes are completely full of crude oil and waiting for consumption. There are moments where the dupes will stay on it all day which is great but lately they do not function it for long periods of time. I really need help my colony is dying without it's main power source.

Definitely check your dupe's priorities and the priority of the refinery.  For example, if you have a refinery at priority 7, but your dupe prefers mining jobs over operating jobs, then a mining request at priority 3 will take the dupe away from the refinery.

Most common problems for refineries starting for a moment then resetting are:

  1. Overpressure, atmo of over 2kg can't offgas the Nat Gas.
  2. Power brownouts as soon as it starts running.  It's a pretty big drain.
  3. Output pipes clogged.

i pretty sure it was around 3k pressure, but close to 2.5kg will sometime stop due to the gas spiking pressure.try to get a oil reservoir b4 it so ti will not run out of oil (otherwise you need to make sure the oil support never stop as it use up 100kg inside it very fast

Them stopping the work after a second is definetly not the priorities. Once they start the job they should continue it until the refinery uses up all the oil inside itself. If they stop mid task it`s beacause something interruped the work. It might be either the dupe needs (out of oxygen, starvation, full bladder or just downtime kicks in) or the machine being unable to operate (overpressure around, insufficient power, entombed, output clogged).

There seems to be a lot of CO2 around the refinery (can`t really tell for sure in the overlay though). Are your dupes wearing exosuits during work? If not they might run out of breath when they start operating the machine causing them to leave. Ckeck out the pressure. If it`s too high the refinery will not be able to emit the nat gas and will stop working right away. Also check if your power system. If the refinery is on a small transformer that powers multiple stuff already it might use up all the charge causing a minor shortage stopping the work as well.
