gbudiman
LOX should evaporate at -183C, but as this screenshot shows, for some unknown reason the temperature increases. The LOX inside stays liquid (although probably it'll be useless anyway since you can't pipe it out without breaking the pipes). I built it initially to store the run-off from LOX refueling station. Even more peculiar, there's no heat transfer between the liquid reservoir and the LOX. Reservoir stays constant at 45C. So where does the heat come from? As usual, built in Survival ModeTM with No ExploitTM Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/101161-liquid-reservoir-can-store-heated-lox/ Share on other sites
Sasza22
In vacuum the liquid inside the reservoir can`t interact with the reservoir itself but instead interacts with one of the tiles it is build on. I guess the tiles could get hof from regolith or something and it transferred to your LOX. If you build the reservoir on mesh tiles it shouldn`t transfer any heat to the LOX in vacuum. I never had anything go pass phase change temp in a reservoir so i didn`t know it won`t phase change inside. Nice to know but i`m not sure if i can use that somehow. Craigjw
If you connect a pipe to it, the pipe will brake continuously till the reservoir is empty. I was planning on doing this, too, although I had not sent LOX to it yet. I knew the mesh tile trick, but now that I look at it again, building on the mech door, so I have and on/off switch will probably give me the same problem. Craigjw
I had a similar issue with a vat, 180c o2. Luckily I had only a small amount, as the pipe needed repairing constantly until it was empty despite being in a vacuum and on a mesh tile. biopon
Deconstruct it, see if you get some over-temp bottles of lox, that you can then use to... break bottle emptiers? Just relocated my reservoir onto mesh tiles in space, but still haven't loaded it. Is the consensus this won't work? Was hoping to have minimum maintenance LOX storage near the rocket. Craigjw
You will need to prime the system, this is best done by running LOX through the pipes without any blockages anywhere, this will sap away heat from pipes till they are at the correct temperature, then they will stop breaking. Kabrute
put the door under just the right side of the building, put the mesh tile under the left side..... should help solve both problems at the same time Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/101161-liquid-reservoir-can-store-heated-lox/#findComment-1137954 Share on other sites

Should have thought of that myself. I was looking at shutoff valves downstream, but as usual simple is also elegant.
