Pause menu button for interface

I don't know why we don't already have this. The *only* way to bring up the pause menu is with the escape key. If your keyboard breaks, you're out of luck.

EDIT: I mention this because my keyboard battery died the other day and I didn't have a replacement handy. I had to go get batteries before I could close ONI. I could pause it just fine, but I couldn't save or leave the game.

There`s a pause button on the top left of the screen. Right next to to the speed setting buttons.

heh. i though your main issue was that you have to press esc to pause game and wanted to add additional button for faster pause.

as Sasza said there is button to pause game already.

yes, it is good idea to have well designed interface - i fully agree with this.

However if your keyboard is broken i would rather buy keyboard or use on-screen keyboard on another screen (if you have one). It is quite hard to design all game with main peripherals taken away - not even a pause, but there is lots of shortcuts to improve gameplay.

Ah you mean main menu? like Main game menu where you can save load etc?

sorry for some reason i thought about pause as pause menu is usually in mobile games where you have "resume" button only.  

i have no idea how to open main menu from interface.

bingo... because you can't.

Just bring up the menu when you click the pause button... or add a menu button so you can access options/save/close, etc with the mouse.

To the right of the cycle counter, there are buttons to adjust speed, there is one to pause the game. Can we just stop this thread now? Its leading to nowhere, you had a valid point, but ultimately missed a feature already existant on the UI, its fine. Everyone glances over things. There is the button you were looking for.

Flytrap that is not the point. I think author was asking for button to open Main manu - not how to pause the game - there isn't such thing on interface

The OP specifically said 'Pause Menu', not 'Pause'.

Also, I want to point out that I don't think it's really a *critical* thing. We can get by without a button for accessing the menu... and every first-person game *requires* keyboard access to the menu. I personally felt like it was an oversight though, because almost every other game that has a button-based gui/hud also implements a button for accessing the save/load/options menu (trying to avoid the word pause lol). In any case, it isn't a huge deal either way.

Ok, but whats the difference. OP's keyboard ran out of juice, he wanted to pause the game, so he wont lose progress while he's fumbling for batteries, the pause button would have solved that, and once he got his batteries, he could resume playing? Assuming he doesn't have spare batteries at home, and wanted to save the game, i mean, sure, but is that really what heppened? 

I dont really understand what you mean, with him needing a menu, and not just a pause function.

I dont really understand what you mean, with him needing a menu, and not just a pause function.

Lets clarify some terms first.

1. Pause menu -  "resume from pause" button - usually used in mobile games 

2. Main menu - where you have options load save exit to desktop etc 

3. Starting screen - usually main menu at the beginning of the game.in ONI also has "resume from last save" button 

At the moment therr is only starting screen in game.i believe author would like to have main menu button interface ( which would have all the same buttons as starting screen but without "resume from save" button"). It is beneficial to be able to access main menu from interface in case you have to shutdown game, save, change keyboard layout or option using just mouse.

Is that make sense?

No. We should have a button that opens the pause menu, it might not be top priority, but adding it takes like 5 minutes, and we are on the QoL updates right now, so this is the perfect time to ask for such a thing.
