Ahh.  Haven't learned the new system yet.  Will take a mind-bending amount of time to understand it.  Then also afraid if anything else gets changed around again.

Want to play,  but staying away and waiting for the next patch.  Maybe there will be something to compel me to start picking away at it.

some of both depending on what the colony needs.  I tend not to focus my dupes on specific jobs instead letting them do what they want as much as possible while still making sure the colony stays running.

For a few colonies i was "specializing" them with +2 for a main job, and +1 for a secondary job, and spreading things around. This way i could keep changing jobs for the bonus's without having to readjust things like if i used the wrench icon for anything, since i may then be short a digger, etc. Anyway, my last colony i decided not to do that and only prioritize specific things like tidy, and let everyone do everything like you are doing, and also like the old style was where everyone does everything. I've found that things get done so much quicker without specializing. It may not be the most efficient way long term, but i get antsy just waiting for stuff to get done when i try to specialize. I was just curious if you had the similar experience with specializing and things seeming to take forever to get done in comparison.

In that regard, the new system is exactly like the old system.  You don't (and frankly shouldn't) specialize until you get a fairly beefy Dupe count.  There comes a point where it's important to have just 2 or 3 Dupes dedicated to Farming for the Farm Station growth buff.  To ensure enough food is made, you need to have a Dupe chained to the Electric Grill.  And now with Ranching, to maintain adequate numbers of critters will require specialists that don't do anything else.  But to make it work and still do anything else, you need a sizable overall workforce.  Because just those 3 task groups will consume 5 to 8 Dupes conservatively.  To get any tasks done outside the base in a timely manner would probably require a total count of maybe 18 to 22.
