Waterlock non-debug mode?

Recommended Posts

Build a bottle emptier where you want the water.  Set it to accept water and give it a high priority, then click the button to enable autobottling.  This will allow dupes to deliver water from your pitcher pump.

Tip: If you use two liquids, such at water and pwater, you only need one bottle (200kg or less) delivered of each liquid, assuming you're using the standard 'T' design waterlock.

Thanks!  Is there a danger of over-filling the waterlock?  Or can I just set the bottle emptiers to auto-bottle and forget about it?  Why do people put bottle emptiers on both sides of the waterlock?

you probably don't want it to overflow or use too much water on it. If you want some designs I can post some.

Have to micromanage them or they will over fill

People build 2 to speed up the process

Here's the most common and friendly water lock to use, just paste it wherever you need it.

The tile at the bottom HAS to be 1000 Kgs or else the other tiles wont be there, just keep filling that bad boy until it hits the pressure point of 1000 Kgs

I normally go for ~100kg of polluted water and 100kg of clean water in the early game - means I can mop them up later when I get better materials.

Later on I transition to 30kg super coolant, 30 kg naptha, then top with a spot of visco gel - looks real purdy.

We have named them "the wobbly goth dildos"....

what would be the purpose of a "set-and-forget" when water locks only need to be built once?

Don't know, and I don't really care lol.

OP wanted to know if he could set-and-forget. I thought I was being helpful.

@Neotuck

That's a bit obtuse, don't you think? It shouldn't have been too difficult to figure out that I meant that I didn't know or care what it would be used for or why he wanted it. He asked a question, I tried to provide an answer that hadn't been covered. How is this confusing you? And why are you so concerned with my post anyway? It clearly wasn't directed at you. [/this stupid conversation]

Calm down folks!  I think I'm starting to like that tall water lock, but what is this liquid vent, impyre?  Got a screenshot?

The best advantage of the tall boy (WGD) is that if you place the recessed tile 1 tile below the normal floor height, your dupes will just hop through it without getting any debuffs - barely slows them down :)

Unfortunately, not atm. I generally use hydrogen locks and co2 locks. The only time I even use water locks is when slimelung is a concern.

I have used the liquid vent setup in the past, but that's because I was already running pipes that way for a factory and algae distillation... plopping in a vent was easy. I usually don't feel like it's worth the extra time to run pipes specifically *just* for waterlocks, so I use autobottling as mentioned above. In any case, any of the water locks above can be used, just ensure that the liquid vent is placed at the high-liquid level (your topmost tile of water). You can also use gas vents to prefill and maintain pressure in hydrogen and co2 locks, though again, this kindof defeats the point of using them since it's usually just a convenience play. IE: I have hydrogen in the top of my base, I want to dig an exit near the top for excavating a hydrogen/chlorine biome... if the hydrogen is already there, using it becomes trivial... it's just about how you dig and build. Likewise, you probably already have a pool of co2 near the bottom of your base which you can use for exits near the bottom.

I didn't have any water pipes nearby when I built this originally, although if I had it might've been trivial to run a pipe over there (as shown in the last screenshot). Also notice that using the waterlocks this way (after the exosuits) eliminates the debuff problem.
