Oxylite Loading Workaround?

Recommended Posts

Oxylite is a really appealing oxidizer for the early (pre-supercoolant) space era. But I've had a devil of a time controlling the amount that gets loaded.

Has anyone found a reasonable workaround? Best thing I've got so far is to just drag the slider on the oxidizer tank to max, watch closely, and then withdraw the gantry when the amount in the tank exceeds what I need. Since I carefully train all my guys to max carrying capacity, this doesn't give the fine control one would hope for.

One of my oxylite storage compactor is set to 900 kg. When I want to launch a rocket, I empty the compactor's content and mark it for sweeping. The oxylite is then delivered to another sweep only, high priority compactor nearby the rocket and finally transferred into the oxidizer tank via sweeper. The tank itself is set to priority 1 so dupes won't fill it to maximum capacity behind my back.

Awesome. That's exactly the sort of thing I was looking for. Thanks.

How do you deal with the sublimation? Send a little extra? Is the compactor near the rocket submerged? Does oxylite not sublimate in vacuum?

What I do requires a little manual intervention, not gamey but close:

Oxylite is stored in that Storage compactor. There is a conveyor loader above but it usually is set to not accept anything.when I prepare the rocket, I set the loader to accept oxylite, which is immediately active. On the other side the oxilite gets automatically filled into the rocket. I monitor the rocket state on the starmap view and when it is close to the intended flight level, I unset the loader, excess drops into the puddle and is then stored back in the compactor, I will have often a little too much in the rocket, but not terrible losses.

I guess with some logic we could automate that by setting the maximum content of the loaders and then use timers to enable the loaders when the autosweeper is not running, for precise amounts. I do not have a solution for liquids yet, but it would probably be something with a cavity that would be filled until a sensos reports enough, then pumping from that..

Oxylite sublimate in vacuum, however the compactor nearby the rocket is not submerged because the oxylite is transferred immediately to the tank. A little amount is probably lost when dupes transport it from the main storage area to the rocket area because those are fairly far from each other, so depending of your base's organisation, it might be a good idea to send a couple of kg extra. In reality, I haven't monitored closely the amount of oxylite that is delivered to the rocket so far. It's kind of a simple temporary solution before I begin to make liquid oxygen.

I actually ended up having all Oxylite locked away. I then had exactly the amount to load moved to one storage compactor outside and lock the rest  in again. Only then started to load. That worked.

That aspect of the game is pretty broken. Just wait until you use Lox.

I found Lox to be way less trouble than oxylite. It honors the limit I set with the slider.

Unless when all Lox gets dropped on the floor, because it did not respect the slider and only notices when you check. Happened to me about 5 times now. Also happens for Petroleum, but that you can just pick up and re-insert into the flow.
