Egg Storer/synthesizer

Recommended Posts

Soooooo currently there's a problem with us having to keep shine bugs and other critters from extinction but we might not want to spend the effort/resources  ranching them.

Critters also take up valuable processing power.

I propose that we introduce some sort of cryogenic egg storage device.

Alternatively we could have an egg synthesizer.

The synthesizer would require an egg to unlock synthesis/production of the respective critter or morph egg

Once a recipe is unlocked, eggs could be synthesized but require input of eggs to process and produce unlocked recipes.

The egg synthesizer could also have a future use of scrambling the genetics of eggs to produce new morphs/critters, perhaps requiring 30 of one critter morph egg and 30 of another.

Provided that new critters and morphs had some sort of valuable function this would add endgame content  an incentive to ranch.

At present I think ranching needs a quality of life update e.g incubators continuously incubating. Perhaps a critter detector that works similarly to an atmosphere sensor.

Shinebugs die mostly for the reason the like exploring and often lay eggs in ice biomes where they die to cold. If you trap a single wild ahinebug in a room it will remain there and lay a single egg. I have a shinebug in my recreation room for over 200 cycles now with no management and it`s not going extinct. All the ones that could move freely are gone though. Also putting a feeder somewhere in your base should keep them from wandering to dangerous zones.

But your ideas aren`t bad. Freezing an egg sounds reasonable.

Well, the idea of putting the creatures you don't need now but will need later in some kind of storage is great. But freezing an egg is ... weird. It will crack, will it not? Maybe it's cooler to freeze the creatures, not the eggs. And use them as decor and air coolers when they are frozen. Why not? I think, the cryo-chambers should also consume power depending on the surrounding temperature.

+1. Was thinking along same lines since it is too hard to automatically maintain reasonable dense puft population or in some cases even puft or slickster population. Especially early on (my wild pufts at some point simply disappeared)

As I understand, some critters we can get from asteroids. Others have no alternate sources.

Synthesizer might solve the problem but is a bit 'over the top'. Perhaps it should be some random asteroids appearing on starmap with needed critters? But only if said critters are completely extinct (no reason to give player unlimited food source)
